Watch a 6-Year-Old Music Prodigy Recreate Kaytranada and The Internet’s “Girl”

Miles Bonham, known as Miles Music Kid online, is not your everyday six-year-old.  Bonham is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and music producer who seems to go viral with each video he uploads. Now, the pint-sized prodigy has shared his recreation of Kaytranada and The Internet’s track “Girl,” wherein he crafts the track’s intricate bass, drum programming and smooth trumpet melody. Before deciding how to recreate the instrument’s melody, he’s heard humming it. “Copy automation data,” Miles says as he shows the project’s volume automation. But he doesn’t stop there. He goes deeper and starts placing various effects, like Logic Pro’s Chromaverb reverb plugin, before going as far as sampling his own voice. He...

Kaytranada Trends After Beyoncé’s “BREAK MY SOUL” Leaks, House Music Twitter Has Thoughts

HipHopWired Featured Video CLOSE Source: Taylor Hill / Getty Kaytranada might not have an extensive solo album discography, but he is rightly seen as a young leader in the world of Dance and Electronic music. Shortly after Beyoncé‘s new House-tinged track “BREAK MY SOUL” was leaked and later released, the Canadian producer’s name has been trending on Twitter. Fans of House and Dance music had plenty of opinions on Drake’s latest album, Honestly, Nevermind, which took the Canadian rapper and crooner into a decidedly uptempo direction with very little rapping across the project. Drizzy, who has a number of critics, has fans split over his newest release after some felt it was a poor representation of House music although Drake never explicitly framed the album as such. Enter Beyoncé. After t...

IDK and Kaytranada Keep It Simple

“Simple City” is the name locals gave to Benning Terrace, a housing project in southeast D.C. shouted out by local go-go artists and once recognized as one of the most active sites of gang violence in the country. Growing up a half-mile over the Maryland border, rapper IDK became childhood friends with a boy from the projects, and as his rap career opened up a world of new possibilities to him, he also sought to open doors for his friend. His latest project, a joint EP with DJ/producer Kaytranada, pays homage to the D.C. neighborhood and shows that life there is anything but Simple. The music video for “Taco”—the debut single off the EP—is set in Simple City and shot almost entirely in black-and-white. IDK’s outfit only adds to the contrast of the video. Looking like he didn’t change after...
