SNL: Rami Malek, Daniel Craig, and Kenan Thompson Audition for Prince Biopic

One of the notable sketches from this week’s Saturday Night Live saw host Rami Malek, his James Bond castmate Daniel Craig (appearing as a surprise guest), and SNL’s Kenan Thompson audition against one another for the lead role in a Prince biopic directed by Jordan Peele (played by Chris Redd). *** Spoiler*** In the sketch, Malek, who won an Oscar for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, nails the audition, but loses points for, uh — not being Black. But before Thompson has a chance to celebrate his landing of the role, 007 himself appears for a last-minute audition. He missed the memo about the biopic being about Prince (instead dressing as an actual prince), but nonetheless walks away with the role. “That was bad, but you’re James Bond so you got the part,” remarks Redd...

SNL Top Highlights: Dan Levy Charms In Hosting Debut

Since kicking off Season 46 last fall, Saturday Night Live has been running closer to business-as-usual than almost any other late-night show during the pandemic. Still, if you look closely, there are differences: Their audience size has been reduced, which has often made studio reactions more muted; the schedule has featured more episodes in a row and yet longer breaks in between; and the host bookings feel less tethered to the usual promotional cycles of big movies, TV show premieres, and awards season. Case in point: 10 months after Schitt’s Creek ended, four months after the show’s historic Emmys sweep, and two months after his co-starring role in Hulu’s Happiest Season, Dan Levy took a victory lap this week with his first Saturday Night Live hosting gig. In other words, he wasn’t real...

Jeffrey Wright to Voice Batman in New Podcast Series

HBO Max is developing a Batman spin-off series for TV, and apparently they’re crafting a Batman miniseries for your ears, too. Say hello to Batman: The Audio Adventures, a new podcast by HBO Max starring Jeffrey Wright as the Caped Crusader. Don’t expect it to get too dark, however, because the roll call also includes comedic actors like Seth Meyers, Jason Sudeikis, and dozens more. Written and directed by Dennis McNicholas, Batman: The Audio Adventures is a multi-episode series that’s putting “a comedic take” on the Dark Knight, notes The Hollywood Reporter. It’s separate from DC’s multi-year deal with Spotify — which includes the new Batman Unburied podcast written by David S. Goyer — and as such it will hit WarnerMedia’s streaming service sometime in 2021. To help draw out the laug...

Adam Sandler Reunites with Julie Bowen in Trailer for Netflix’s Hubie Halloween: Watch

Adam Sandler is leaving the Diamond District and heading to Halloweentown — or rather, Salem, Massachusetts. The blockbuster comic is back just in time for the season of the witch with his latest Netflix comedy, Hubie Halloween. Today, the streaming giant has unleashed the movie’s first trailer ahead of its October 7th premiere. Directed by Steven Brill (Heavyweights, Little Nicky), this spooky comedy follows Hubie DuBois (Sandler), a kooky, albeit good-natured, community volunteer who stumbles upon a real-life murder case on Halloween night. The problem is he’s something of a laughing stock across Salem to both adults and children alike. As with any of Sandler’s flicks, Hubie Halloween is chock full his go-to pals: Kevin James, Steve Buscemi, Rob Schneider, and Colin Quinn. However, old-s...
