The United Bank for Africa Plc (UBA), a pan-African financial services group, on Tuesday announced the appointments of Mr Ayoku Liadi and Oliver Alawuba as Deputy Managing Directors. The bank in a statement in Lagos, said the Deputy Managing Directors would be in charge of UBA’s Nigeria and Africa businesses, respectively. Immediate past General Manager of the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance and Regulatory Agency, LASIMRA, Chief Jide Odekunle, during the administration of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in Lagos State is dead. He was said to have died at age 53 of COVID-19 complications. A top government official who confirmed this to Vanguard said late Odekunle died of COVID-19 complications at the Onikan isolation centre. Lagos State Government has announced the take over of COVID-19 testing by a consortium of health professionals and private laboratories. Commissioner for Health Prof Akin Abayomi, who made the disclosure during a press conference today at Alausa, Ikeja, added that that test for the novel coronavirus disease remains free of charge at various government centres. While putting the cost of the test at government facilities at between N40,000 and N50,400, Abayomi said the inclusion of the private consortium in the testing infrastructure was part of the moves to expand the state government’s COVID-19 response capacity. A source said Ajimobi has been in coma and was placed on life support for some days after a surgery at a private hospital in Lagos. The federal government has evacuated 167 Nigerians from South Africa and are now en route to Nigeria, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, said.
