How the EPL reacted to Leeds’ decision to stage ESL protest against Liverpool

Leeds United held Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at Elland Road last night, with Diego Llorente’s late header cancelling out Sadio Mane’s first-half opener. While the Premier League clash was an interesting one despite the few goals, conversations pre-match and post-match were mainly about the European Super League. Liverpool have joined Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur as part of the big-six English top-flight clubs to have pulled out of the European Club Association to form the breakaway league. Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan, Inter Milan are the other 12-club founding members of the Super League, and Leeds made their displeasure known pre-match. ‘I’m convinced’: Carragher delivers verdict on ESL after hearing what Leeds and Liverpool fans done

Jamie Carragher has suggested that he is convinced the idea of the European Super League can be stopped if everyone ‘Keep banging the drum’.  Twelver clubs – including six Premier League clubs – wants a break away from the existing system. However, the other 14 clubs are getting ready for the fight. Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin has even called Juventus’ chairman “a liar” and the clubs “snakes”. The Slovenian criticised the attitude of the club owners who he said view the game as a “product” and fans as “consumers”. There were rumours that Jurgen Klopp, the Reds boss, could leave the club at the end of the season if the plan goes ahead. While Klopp has vowed to honour his contract, he has insisted he would try to “sort it somehow” with Fenway Sports Group. The decision from t...

Predicted Leeds XI vs Liverpool: Bielsa to make two changes, 21-yr-old to start

Liverpool visit Leeds United for their Premier League game later today, and the Reds will be hoping to close in on the top four with a victory. Tonight’s game could be vital to Liverpool’s Champions League aspirations, and they cannot afford to slip up. That said, it remains to be seen how important a top-four finish will eventually prove to be after the announcement of the European Super League (ESL) last night. Liverpool have already signed up for the breakaway tournament along with five other Premier League clubs. Their proposed participation in the ESL means that they will not be allowed to play in the Champions League. The majority of fans are unhappy with the club’s decision to break away and form an exclusive competition which is perceived as a move motivated by financial reasons. S...

Gary Neville sends Super League message to Leeds players ahead of Liverpool clash

Leeds United host Liverpool this evening and fans will be looking forward to another cracker following the 4-3 thriller both teams played out on the first day of the campaign. While the Elland Road outfit have more than just bragging rights to play for, same cannot be said of the Reds. The Anfield giants have joined five other Premier League clubs to form the European Super League alongside the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan, pulling out of the UEFA competitions. Manchester United legend Gary Neville is seething as...

5 decisive games in Sheffield United’s season

Following a 1-0 defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers, Sheffield United’s relegation from the Premier League was confirmed with six games remaining. It’s been a miserable campaign for the Blades, racking up just 14 points from 32 outings, scoring only 17 goals. To say they’ve been a shadow of the team they were last season is being generous.
