Liverpool complete loan deal for Schalke defender

Liverpool have completed the deadline-day signing of Ozan Kabak from Schalke, subject to international clearance. The 20-year-old defender will move to Anfield on loan until the end of the season, with the Reds having the option to make the move permanent in the summer for a fee of £18 million ($25m). Kabak, a Turkey international who moved to Schalke from Stuttgart in 2019, will be the first of two signings on a busy day on Merseyside. He will be joined by Preston centre-back Ben Davies, who finalised his switch earlier on Monday. Goal understands that Liverpool will pay an initial loan fee of around £1m ($1.4m) for Kabak, while the deal for Davies could be worth in excess of £1.6m, should all performance-related add-ons be triggered. The Reds had been insistent that it would be a quiet w...

Davies to Liverpool: Reds take odd approach to solving defensive issues – opinion

Liverpool’s acquisition of Ben Davies from Preston North has undoubtedly raised a few eyebrows across the football world. Opinion on the signing is divided, with some fans suggesting it could be an inspired bit of business while others are questioning Liverpool’s sanity. We take a closer look at whether a player with 129 appearances in the Championship under his belt can make the step up to the Premier League. Links with other teams Davies was close to signing for Celtic before Liverpool made their move. He had also been linked with Sheffield United, Burnley and Bournemouth – heady stuff. It is perhaps the proposed move to Celtic that should be most worrying for Liverpool fans. This is a club that thought Shane Duffy was a sensible defensive signing. Be afraid, be very afraid. Preston North End’s Ben Davies (not to be confused with the man who had a defensive shocker against Brighton & Hove Albion) is set to join Liverpool on deadline day, with the Reds’ under-23 defender Sepp van den Berg moving in the other direction on loan. The Premier League’s defending champions are only going to be paying £500,000 initially, with an additional £1.1 million included in performance-related clauses and Preston securing a 20% sell-on fee. Report: Liverpool agree fee for 25-yr-old; Reds also offered the chance to sign 10-cap Int’l

Liverpool have been offered the chance to sign the Marseille defender Duje Caleta-Car. The 10-cap Croatian international has done well in Ligue 1, but Marseille are currently going through an economic crisis and could sanction his sale if the right offer is on the table. As per Goal.com, Liverpool are unlikely to move for the 24-year-old because of the French club’s demands. Caleta-Car is highly talented, and he could be a quality long term addition to the Liverpool back four. However, it seems that a move is unlikely unless the French club are more reasonable with their demands. The 24-year-old is calm and composed with the ball at his feet, and he is excellent in the air. Furthermore, he is quick and he should be able to adapt to Liverpool’s high defensive line. Apparently, the Reds...

‘Shocking’, ‘Anonymous’ – Some West Ham fans react to 24-yr-old’s display against Liverpool

West Ham United were beaten 3-1 by Liverpool at home in the Premier League earlier today. Despite being in impressive form coming into this game, David Moyes’ side struggled to cope with Liverpool’s quality and efficiency. The Reds did well to control the game in the first half and clicked into another gear after the break. The likes of Thiago Alcantara and Mohamed Salah were outstanding for the away side and Moyes will feel that his players could have done better against the reigning champions. The West Ham fans were disappointed with some of the performances, with Pablo Fornals amongst the players they criticised. Fornals was underwhelming for the Hammers and was replaced in the second half for Andriy Yarmolenko. The midfielder was wasteful with the ball at his feet and failed to provide...

Manchester United boss seeks team’s cutting edge after Arsenal stalemate

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Manchester United’s forwards need to be more clinical after a 0-0 draw at an under-strength Arsenal dealt a second setback to their Premier League title challenge in four days. United threw away top spot with a shock 2-1 defeat by bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United in midweek and are now three points adrift of league leaders Manchester City having played a game more than their local rivals. The quartet of Marcus Rashford, Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial and Bruno Fernandes have now scored just once in United’s last five league games. Cavani was the biggest threat for the visitors with two second-half efforts that flew just wide, but Arsenal were worthy of at least a point despite missing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Bukayo Saka and Kieran Tierney. “We come awa...

‘His eyes lit up’ – Report shares how Gerrard reacted to recent Man Utd result

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard continues to keep tabs on the Premier League despite managing in the Scottish Premiership, and he remains a staunch Liverpool fan. The former midfielder has never liked Manchester United given his links with the Anfield giants, and that does not appear to have changed. According to the Sportsmail, Gerrard’s eyes lit up when a journalist told him on Wednesday that the Red Devils were losing to Sheffield United at Old Trafford, and he made sure to watch the highlights when he got back to his apartment that night. The 1-0 defeat prevented Man Utd from returning to the top of the league table, and that would have left the Liverpool hero very delighted. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men could not bounce back from mid-week’s shocker when they visited Arsenal yesterday, playi...
