Loafers haven’t been around for a while. Sure, they kind of bubble up as one of those wardrobe basics we will always feel passionate about, but they haven’t really been in the fashion spotlight for a while. Back in 2015, it was Gucci’s Horsebit backless loafers that became the ubiquitous shoes of the season thanks to Alessandro Michele‘s new reign at the fashion house. Then after that initial buzz, which did admittedly last a couple of years (and the style still stands up today as a modern classic), everything went a little quiet on the loafer front. Now, in 2021, they’re everywhere again, and this time nearly every designer you can think of is taking part. Well, dear readers, I think I’ve found the ultimate designer loafers to b...
From Katie Holmes’s dedication to anti-skinny jeans through to Holly Willoughby’s extensive dress collection, there are still a handful of key celebrities we look to these days for direct style advice despite the fact that the influencer world provides us with plenty of inspiration. Some A-listers’ wardrobes are too stage-ready to feel relatable to real life (during lockdown or otherwise) while others deliver the kind of casual, off-duty ensembles we can actually note down for future styling reference or use to catalogue which designer items are worth investing in. After all, these are people with no shortage of luxury items being passed their way, so what they choose to actually share and wear is of some significance. As the new season is now in full...
There are far more important things I’m hoping for this year, but many of them feel far-reaching and beyond reality. So as silly as it may sound, tapping to a new sandal trend for spring/summer 2021 at least feels achievable and even more exciting than it has in years past. I’ve never been one to turn down a new pair of sandals—they are the thing I look forward to wearing most when the weather turns—and this season won’t be any different, as the wide and enticing variety on offer is enough to tempt even the most hardened sneaker wearer. Even if my fancy flip-flops, box-fresh Birkenstocks, or retro kitten heels only get as far as around the block for my neighbours to enjoy, that will be good enough for me. Hotter climes and exotic ad...
You simply don’t need to talk me into it: I’m obsessed with matching sets. Co-ords have become my go-to in times of fashion need for many reasons. First, they look pulled-together with minimal styling effort required. Then there’s the fact that they magically manage to straddle the tricky smart-casual divide I struggle with. There’s something about dresses that feels a lot more formal and something about mismatched separates that requires a great deal of consideration each morning. Such is the co-ord’s popularity in the land of fashion that it’s made the impressive transition from trend to wardrobe staple, and you’ll now find that many e-commerce websites have entire category pages dedicated to them. I don’t mean to generalise here, but the thing I’ve learned about working with beauty editors is that they all have very high standards and unbelievable attention to detail. They can spot a slight shade difference in a relaunched red lipstick and have an acute understanding of ingredients. This is why I trust them implicitly, and my bathroom cupboard is basically an amalgamation of all of their advice. I still remain a beauty novice, but the general tips I’ve picked up on are 1) always, always wear SPF (even when it’s cloudy, and even in England), 2) invest in the products that give you a spa-like feeling, and 3) be kind to your skin, and don’t change or mix products too much. The return of the sun this week has prompted a wardrobe switchover for many, with puffer coats and bulky knitwear retired for another year and the dusting off of our summer pieces. Nothing says summer like a pair of sunglasses, and there is one silhouette that is proving particularly popular of late—square and rectangular frames. Gucci has become a moniker for maximalist styling, so it is not surprising that this is the brand leading this trend. The house’s rectangular- and square-frame sunglasses with an interlocking double-G logo on each arm are rapidly becoming a mainstay on my Instagram feed, and they are so popular that I think they are officially the sunglasses of 2021. For a more classic take, follow Lizzo’s lead and opt for the black pair with quilted leather arms....

Nothing says summer like a pair of sunglasses and there is one silhouette that is proving particularly popular of late—square and rectangular frames. Gucci has become a moniker for maximalist styling, and so it is not surprising that this is the brand leading this trend for angular, rainbow sunnies. The house’s rectangular and square frame sunglasses, with a statement interlocking double G logo on each arm is rapidly becoming a mainstay on my Instagram feed, and they are so popular I think they are officially the sunglasses of 2021. This week has been the first time we could both ditch the coats AND meet six people outside, marking the start of drinks-in-the-park season. At my park last night people really dressed up for the occasion, wearing looks that you’d expect to see at a festival. It seems like Rihanna has also missed dressing up, as was pictured doing a groceries run in an outfit that screams ‘it’s summer!’ She wore a printed colourful shirt, with a jazzy palm tree pattern which is from the collaboration between Celine Homme and American artist Tyson Reeder. This print is actually a copy of one of his art works called ‘Autobahn’. This isn’t the only menswear item Rihanna added to the look, as she wore a pair of pink boxers by ERL that are visible underne...
It bags may come and go, but when buying a designer handbag and parting with such a significant amount of money, you want to be certain that it’s something that is truly deserving of the title of “investment piece.” This is an item that you want to have by your side for years, if not decades. Yes, love is a big part of it, but this is also a purchase that requires a certain amount of research and consideration. There are certain heritage houses that are known to hold their value but that also create timeless, beautiful designs that ensure their key styles are continued for decades. Gucci is one of these very labels. Looking through a Gucci collection is like diving into an eclectic dressing-up box—you’re met with more crystals, bold colours...
Having spent the last 13 years or so looking at expensive clothes and accessories up close means I can spot a worthwhile investment from a mile off. I may not have the available budget to always splurge on said pieces, but they’re building up into one heck of a wish list in my head—a wish list that I’m willing to share with you here, in a monthly shopping gallery that features only the most-obsessed over and adored creations I’ve bookmarked. Every now and then, a brand comes along and captures the hearts of the global fashion set. It’s not always in the flashy, “must buy every piece and wear it immediately” sense when the hype around a new creative director at a big fashion house reaches its zenith. Sometimes, it happens with a softly-softly approach, where an unyielding urge to just own something—anything—grows over time. Stylists, editors and influencers have plenty of beautiful clothes to enjoy, but there’s always room for a new, special addition, and one such example in recent times is most definitely Aje, specifically Aje’s dresses. Almost everyone on our team agrees that to lay claim to an Aje midi would be a truly wonderful thing. It’s an invest...
It’s been a long time since we were last at a fashion show, so you could forgive us for not remembering every little detail. However, back in 2020 there was one item that made a real lasting impact: Gucci’s new It bag. When Alessandro Michele presented his AW20 collection back in March last year, almost every look featured the iconic Jackie bag, which confirmed this bag was set to be the next cult accessory from the Italian fashion house. But it’s not going anywhere in 2021. Even for Gucci’s Resort this season, it seems that every other look includes the Jackie. If you recognise the name, then it’s probably because technically this bag isn’t new. The handbag was initially named after Jackie Kennedy and has been a hero Gucci item for years, but...
