Disney+ recently announced the onboarding of Netflix’s TV-MA Marvel shows, which is great news for fans of Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and more, but an unaccountable tragedy for the humorless scolds at the Parents Television and Media Council. In a new open letter, the PTC said the decision “violates the trust of families” and suggested carrying such content is a slippery slope to “adding live striptease performances in Fantasyland at Disney World.” The House of Mouse’s streaming platform is adding new parental controls for this more mature content in hopes of heading off criticisms like this. On March 16th, when Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Punisher, Iron Fist, and The Defenders become available to watch, subscribers signing in to Disney+ ...
When news broke in February that Netflix’s live-action Marvel series would be moving to Disney+, one major concern was how the House of Mouse would handle the decidedly non-PG content of The Defenders franchise. Today (March 1st) Disney has answered that question by announcing a new update to parental controls that will go into effect when the shows hit the streamer on March 16th. When subscribers open Disney+ for the first time on or after March 16th, they will be offered the granular ability to select content ratings restrictions and create a PIN for each profile. According to a press release, any profile without the parental controls in place “will continue to enjoy Disney+ as they always have within a TV-14 content rating environment.” IMDb lists Daredevil, Jessica Jones...
Sony is continuing to make use of its Universe of Marvel Characters. According to Deadline, the studio has cast Fred Hechinger as Chameleon in the upcoming Kraven the Hunter. The White Lotus breakout will star alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the title role, as well as Russell Crowe in an undisclosed role. Word is that much of the Kraven cast will be made up of the classic Spider-Man villain’s family (with Crowe likely playing his father), and that fits with Hechinger joining as Chameleon. In the comics, Chameleon is Dmitri Smerdyakov, Kraven’s half-brother. He’s a master of disguise and impressions, skills that allow him to assume the identity of nearly anyone he encounters. Some versions of the character have depicted him with scientifically enhanced powers and technology...
You don’t become one of the world’s most esteemed living filmmakers without making a few enemies. In a new interview with GQ, Francis Ford Coppola didn’t shy away from calling out his pet peeves in modern cinema, revealing that he generally finds Marvel movies formulaic and repetitive. “There used to be studio films,” the Godfather mastermind said. “Now there are Marvel pictures. And what is a Marvel picture? A Marvel picture is one prototype movie that is made over and over and over and over and over again to look different.” Even some non-Marvel blockbusters, particularly Dune and No Time to Die, haven’t pleased Coppola, either (ironically, Dune director Denis Villeneuve has also voiced his frustrations with the science of Marvel). Before the Rams took on the Bengals in the Super Bowl, Marvel gave a new look at what it’s like when Doctor Strange takes on the multiverse by revealing a new trailer. The latest preview of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness makes it clear the highly anticipated sequel is going to be one hell of a crazy, jam packed ride. You thought Spider-Man: No Way Home had a lot going on? This one’s got a minotaur (Rintrah), Scarlett Witch vs. Wanda (aka Elizabeth Olsen versus herself), as well as mysterious powered up character, a one-eyed tentacle monster (I’m still saying this is Shuma-Gorath), the reality-punching America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez), and some insane special effects. And somehow that’s not all. Midway through the trailer, Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) warns Doctor Strange (Bened...
Embrace the chaos. Marvel Studios shared a new teaser trailer for Moon Knight during the 2022 Super Bowl. Watch the new commercial below. While the dialogue coming from Oscar Isaac (Steven Grant/Marc Spector/Moon Knight) and Ethan Hawke (cult leader Arthur Harrow) is the same as the previous teaser, the new spot reveals a ton of new footage. In addition to clips of our hero morphing into Moon Knight amid eerie shots of the sun setting behind the Great Pyramids of Giza, we see him battling a group of thugs in ways that show of his crescent cape and darts. We also get a glimpse of Harrow’s powers, which are apparently connected to his staff and the pyramids themselves. Fans of Netflix’s Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, The Punisher, Iron Fist, and The Defenders will will no longer be able to stream on the platform after March 1st. Deadline reports that Netflix’s license for their slew of Marvel series is ending, reverting the rights over to Marvel’s parent company, Disney. Some viewers have anticipated this news since Netflix announced they’d be canceling all their Marvel series in 2019, coinciding with the launch of Disney+. While many of these shows contain more explicit content that doesn’t quite fit with the family-friendly branding of Disney+, the move seems like the best fit in order to keep all streamable Marvel content on the same platform. Fans have also speculated that Disney+ is looking to broaden their content beyond PG-rated fare in orde...
Russell Crowe has scored another Marvel movie. The New Zealand-born actor is set to join Aaron Taylor-Johnson in Kraven the Hunter, Sony’s upcoming film about the Spider-Man villain. While we know Taylor-Johnson will play Kraven, it’s unclear what role Crowe has in Kraven the Hunter, slated to arrive January 13th, 2023. According to The Hollywood Reporter, however, Kraven’s family members are said to take up much of the cast. J.C. Chandor is directing the film from a screenplay by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway, and Richard Wenk, while Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing. Kraven the Hunter arrives as part of the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters, which makes sense given Sony controls the film rights to Spider-Man and other related characters. After taking on Eddie ...
Thought you’d have to wait until Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness’ May release for your next MCU fix? Never fear, Moon Knight is here, as Marvel has revealed the first trailer for the upcoming Disney+ series and announced a March 30th debut. After teasing the show during November’s Disney+ Day, Marvel unveiled the full preview during the NFL’s Super Wild Card matchup on Monday night — during the first full moon of the year, no less. Oscar Isaac leads the series as the title character, who in the comics is really ex-US Marine Marc Spector, a man who suffers from dissociative identity disorder. Here, though, he’s simply Steven, a gift shop employee at a London museum with a sleeping disorder. Or at least he thinks he is, until he gets a mysterious call from someone calling ...
