After playing the titular villain in X-Men: Apocalypse, it looks like Oscar Isaac may be taking on another headlining role in a Marvel project — only this time as a hero. Variety reports the actor is in talks to star in the Moon Knight series coming to Disney+. Should Isaac officially sign on for Moon Knight, he’d play Marc Spector, a rich ex-mercenary who devotes himself to the Egyptian moon god Khonshu in order to save his life. As Knonshu’s avatar Moon Knight, he viciously fights crime with weapons funded by his massive wealth, often drawing comparisons to Batman in that sense. However, Moon Knight isn’t Spector’s only alternate identity, as he creates the personas of millionaire Steven Grant and cab driver Jake Lockley to further aid in his heroics. Later incarnations of the character ...
It’s becoming increasingly evidence that Spider-Man 3 is to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as The Flash is to the DC Extended Universe. We got our first real hint this was coming when it was revealed earlier this month that Jamie Foxx would be reprising his role as Electro from the non-MCU The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Now, another MCU character getting caught the tangled web of Spider-Man 3 all but confirms it, as Benedict Cumberbatch is reportedly appearing as Doctor Strange. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, Cumberbatch’s Strange will fill the mentor/adult role held by Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark and Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury in the previous MCU Spidey films, Homecoming and Far From Home, respectively. But considering the upcoming Doctor Strange standalone sequel is enti...
In news that will truly shock Marvel fans, The Hollywood Reporter has it that Jamie Foxx is in final negotiations to reprise his The Amazing Spider-Man 2 role of Electro in the upcoming Spider-Man 3. Foxx portrayed the classic villain six years ago in the second and final movie featuring Andrew Garfield in Spidey’s webs. While the film was the ninth-highest-grossing release of 2014, its $709 million box office take remains the lowest of any Spider-Man movie to date, and it was generally panned by critics and fans alike. In fact, it was so poorly received that Sony abandoned plans for more sequels and a Sinister Six spinoff in favor of its now legendary deal with Marvel Studios bringing Spider-Man to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Infamously, Sony attempted to reclaim the web-head last summ...
Ms. Marvel (Marvel) and Iman Vellani (photo via TIFF) Marvel has found the latest hero to bear its name. Newcomer Iman Vellani has been cast as the title character in the upcoming Disney+ series Ms. Marvel. Vellani is a complete unknown in Hollywood, with her only notable connection being her spot on the Toronto International Film Festival’s Next Wave Committee last year. As Deadline reports, Marvel was determined to find the perfect actress for the role, regardless of their usual A-list casting habits. After a long and thorough process, Vellani nabbed the coveted part. The plan is to have her debut in the Disney+ show before she transitions to the big screen. Ms. Marvel debuted in 2014 as Marvel’s first Muslim hero to headline their own comic series. The character is Kamala Khan, a Pakist...
Despite having a jam-packed career filled with dozens of iconic roles, Samuel L. Jackson is only just now gearing up for his first-ever regular television role. According to Variety, the legendary actor will be reprising his role as Nick Fury for a yet another new Marvel series on Disney+. Jackson first debuted as the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. in a post-credits scene in 2008’s Iron Man. Fury’s been a linchpin of the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since, appearing in 11 movies total, primarily in the Iron Man, Captain America, and Avengers films. Most recently, he showed up in Spider-Man: Far From Home, Avengers: Endgame, and was digitally de-aged for a co-starring role in Captain Marvel. He’s also one of the few characters from the MCU movies to appear on the small scree...
Disney has returned with more re-programming woes. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Mouse House is pushing back both Black Widow and West Side Story way, way into 2021 because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Scarlett Johansson’s blockbuster will go from November 6th to May 7th, 2021. If you’re keeping tabs, that’s more than a full year removed from its pre-Covid release date of May 1st, 2020. Because of this, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is moving from May 7th to July 9th, 2021, while The Eternals will shift from February to November 5th, 2021. Meanwhile, Steven Spielberg’s West Side Story is officially out of this year’s Oscar race. 20th Century and Amblin’s remake of the iconic musical is being delayed an entire year, going from December 18th, 2020 to December 1...
Disney+ is doing their own thing for October 2020. The Mouse House is mostly opting out of spooky season for some truly out-of-this-world events. There’s the series premiere of The Right Stuff and the highly anticipated sophomore season of their Emmy-winning Star Wars spinoff The Mandalorian. Beyond that, Disney+ is adding a few big titles to their catalogue, specifically Maleficent, X2: X-Men United, Mr. Holland’s Opus, and — watch out — Cheaper by the Dozen 2. They’re also getting the 31st season of The Simpsons. How about that. For those bummed out there are very little Halloween treats — including their dusty diamond-in-the-rough special Halloween Treats — it should be noted that they already have plenty of ghoulish content on the service. Yes, that means Halloweentown. Editors’ ...
WandaVision is set to become the first Marvel series to air on Disney+. Today, its first official trailer has arrived. Taking place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, the new TV series stars Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. the Scarlett Witch, and Paul Bettany as Vision in a sitcom-like manner à la I Love Lucy or The Brady Bunch. The program is said to be a “blend of classic television and the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” and follows “the two super-powered beings living idealized suburban lives” — that is, until they suspect that all is not what it seems (which makes sense since, ya know, Vision is dead). We see a bit of that mystery unravel in this first trailer. After a charming introduction to Wanda and Vision’s vanilla suburbia — filmed through a retro black-and-white ...
Tatiana Maslany is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as Deadline reports she’s been tapped to play the title character in the upcoming Disney+ series She-Hulk. The Orphan Black and, more recently, HBO’s Perry Mason star will headline the series as lawyer-turned-superhero Jennifer Walters. The last major Marvel character created by the legendary Stan Lee, Walters becomes She-Hulk after receiving an emergency blood transfusion from her cousin, Dr. Bruce “The Hulk” Banner. Unlike Banner, however, Walters retains her intelligence and personality when she turns all green and muscular, even trying cases while fully hulked out. Considering where Banner ended up in Avengers: Endgame, it’s likely the show won’t have much trouble explaining away the difference. Word of Maslany’s casting comes j...
