It’s hard to imagine a comedy set like Norm Macdonald’s latest and last. Nothing Special, a title that manages the Norm-like feat of simultaneous irony and honesty, was recorded at Macdonald’s home, without an audience, during the pre-vaccine pandemic days of 2020. It’s performed in the style of a webcast; MacDonald has a microphone, but he’s sitting down, focusing mostly on his face, as if Zooming into his own special. The press materials boast that it was done in “one take,” which is both impressive, in that Macdonald appears to do 55 minutes of comedy more or less extemporaneously without any breaks for laughs, and obvious, in that he’s occasionally interrupted, by a ringing phone or a barking dog. Snoop Dogg won’t be bringing his doggy style to Australia later this year as planned. The hip-hop legend was booked for an arena tour Down Under this October and November, though all dates are postponed “due to unforeseen circumstances, family obligations and filming commitments,” reads a statement issued Monday (May 30) by TEG MJR. Warren “Waz” Costello, a kingpin of Australia’s independent label industry, died Sunday (May 29) after a battle with cancer. He was 64. Costello co-founded Liberation Records with the late Mushroom Group founder Michael Gudinski, and remained one of Gudinski’s closest and most trusted allies until his own passing in March 2021. Drake has been named the most-streamed artist of 2022 so far, with the likes of Juice WRLD, Eminem, the artist formerly known as Kanye West and more also joining the mid-year top 10 list. Chart Data revealed that The Boy currently leads this list with a total of 3 billion streams so far in the United States, followed by YoungBoy Never Broke Again with 2.8 billion streams. The Band’s Robbie Robertson Pays Tribute to Ronnie Hawkins: “The One Who Made This All Happen”

Rockabilly legend Ronnie Hawkins, who served as a mentor of The Band, died Sunday, May 29th at the age of 87. Hawkins’ wife told CBC that her husband passed away following a long illness. “He went peacefully and he looked as handsome as ever,” Wanda Hawkins said. Though a native of Arkansas, Hawkins experienced the majority of his success after relocating to Canada in the early 1960s. At one point, his band, known as The Hawks, featured Levon Helm, Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel, and Garth Hudson– who would later go on to form The Band and back Bob Dylan.
