Jake Webb has announced his fourth album as Methyl Ethel, Are You Haunted?, out February 18th via Future Classic. He also shared the new single “Proof” as a preview. To construct the nine-track LP, Webb returned to the studio where he conceived many of his first Methyl Ethel tracks back in 2014 and found inspiration in memories and ghosts of the past. “There are these spirits, memories of our old selves, our younger selves, parents, generations past whose deeds, actions, successes and failures shape us,” he said in a statement about the album’s themes. “We all have these ghosts that linger in our present predicaments.” “Proof” follows the previous singles “Neon Cheap” and “Matters.” It features the first-ever guest vocalist on a Methyl Ethel song in Stella Donnelly, who used to play guitar...
Love can leave you cold, especially when it leads to heartbreak. That’s the simple message in the video for Shawn Mendes‘ emotional single “It’ll Be Okay.” The kind of blue ballad released in the wake of the singer’s high-profile November breakup with Camila Cabello after two-plus years of dating finally got a visual treatment on Thursday (Jan. 13), more than a month after Mendes dropped the song. Explore See latest videos, charts and news And like the track’s clear-eyed chronicle of lost love — on which Mendes sings, “If you tell me you’re leaving, I’ll make it easy/ It’ll be okay/ If we can’t stop the bleeding/ We don’t have to fix it/ We don’t have to stay/ I will love you either way/ Ooh-ooh, it’ll be oh, be okay” — the Jay Martin-directed clip keeps things uncomplicated. In fact it co...
After a two-year hiatus, The Chainsmokers are gearing up for their fourth album, and they want you to know that they’re sorry about it. In a satirical video released Thursday (Jan. 13), The Chainsmokers’ label head hires a pair of actors to replace the duo because they’re taking too long to make a new album, a scheme that is believed will work “because who really knows what they look like.” This video then documents these fake Chainsmokers’ process of trying to make new music, which includes smoking $100 bills, ingesting psychedelic mushrooms, and rollerskating around their mansion while ripping a giant bong before succumbing to the pressures of fame and quitting the project. At the end of the video, the fake Chainsmokers are then replaced with the real thing, with the duo’s Drew Taggart a...
The man who appeared as a nude baby on the cover of Nirvana’s album Nevermind has refiled his lawsuit claiming that the iconic image violated child pornography laws, less than two weeks after it was dismissed by a federal judge. Citing a blown deadline, the judge dismissed the case last week, but he gave Spencer Elden – the now-30-year-old man featured on the 1991 album cover – “one last opportunity” to refile his lawsuit “if plaintiff still wishes to pursue this action.” On Wednesday, attorneys for Elden did so, once again accusing the band of breaching federal child pornography laws by using “a lascivious exhibition of Spencer’s genitals” for commercial gain. “The focal point of the Nevermind album cover is Spencer’s genitals and pubic area,” Elden’s attorneys wrote in the new complaint,...

Steve Vai and Favored Nations / Mascot Label Group have released an official visualizer for “Zeus In Chains”. The composition is featured on Vai‘s upcoming studio album titled “Inviolate” which will be released digitally and on CD on January 28. The vinyl will follow on March 18. Vai states: “The title for this track ‘Zeus In Chains’ was told to me by the track when I was listening back and asked it… ‘What’s your name?’ This happened during the heavy guitar breakdown with the dissonant high note that happens right before the solo. It sounded like Zeus in chains. Hey, it’s art. You can make up anything you want and it’s legitimate.” Over the course of a more than 40-year career, Vai has routinely transformed...
In a new interview with KUSI‘s Paul Rudy, Sammy Hagar spoke how he mended his relationship with the late Eddie Van Halen prior to the legendary VAN HALEN guitarist’s October 2020 passing. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “The whole year, of 2020, in the early parts, around January, Eddie and I connected and we started talking again. We were talking about writing music again. We were talking about going out and touring with the whole gang one time for the big time in ’22; that was the plan. Of course we wouldn’t wanna announce anything like that. But I think Wolfie [Eddie‘s son Wolfgang Van Halen] said it in some interviews how everybody was planning on doing that, and it would have been the greatest thing that ever happened to VAN HALEN. Unf...

According to Rolling Stone, the man who claims he was the baby featured on the cover of NIRVANA‘s “Nevermind” album has refiled his lawsuit against the band, a little over a week after a judge dismissed his initial complaint. Last August, Spencer Elden filed the lawsuit, alleging the photo of the baby reaching for a dollar in a swimming pool violated federal child pornography statutes and arguing child sexual exploitation. He also claimed the image on the cover was taken and used without his consent. In last month’s motion to dismiss, NIRVANA, as well as Kurt Cobain‘s widow, Courtney Love, had asked the court to throw out the lawsuit, saying Elden‘s claim that the photograph on the “Nevermind” cover is child pornography is “not serious&...
HipHopWired Featured Video Source: SOPA Images / Getty Years ago, there existed a trending craze that had people walking out into the middle of the street and/or into stationary objects because they were too focused on their phone screens to watch where they were going. We all remember the Pokémon GO mobile game app. We remember that it started out as something fun for anime fans or anyone who just enjoyed that kind of thing, but it quickly devolved into a public safety hazard for the accident-prone. What probably wasn’t on any of our radars regarding the dangers of the game, was the possibility that police officers might be so distracted by the virtual Pokémon hunt that they would ignore crimes that were happening around them. And yet… According to CNN, now-former Los Angeles Police Depar...
