John Legend is taking “All of Me” to another level, selling his signature song as part of a larger portfolio of compositions which were acquired last year by BMG and global investment firm KKR, Billboard has confirmed. As first reported by Bloomberg, the EGOT recipient sold both his personal share of the copyrights to his compositions as well as the recorded music royalties for his music dated 2004 thru early 2021 to the partnering companies for an undisclosed sum back in September. A UCC regulatory filing indicated that DL Music IP LP, an affiliate of KKR Credit Advisors, and BMG Rights Management each purchased a 50% stake in the Legend catalog. BMG and KKR have not formally announced the acquisition, and financial details of the sale are not yet known. Both companies declined requests t...

During an appearance on yesterday’s (Thursday, January 6) episode of SiriusXM‘s “Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk”, Billy Idol‘s longtime guitarist Steve Stevens spoke about his recent battle with COVID-19, the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. “My wife and I, we’ve been so careful,” he said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET). “And I think now with this omicron [coronavirus variant], it’s just so virulent, and we managed to get it. But not too bad… There was, like, one day that I kind of felt a little bit tired, a little fatigued. “What had happened was we did a benefit show in Los Angeles that Dave Navarro [JANE’S ADDICTION] and Billy Morrison [Billy Idol] did — ‘Above Ground’ — [in late Decembe...
TRIVIUM frontman Matt Heafy has collaborated with TESTAMENT singer Chuck Billy on a new song called “Behold Our Power”. The track, which was released under Heafy‘s name via his YouTube channel, was apparently written as the theme song for the 2022 installment of Poland’s Mystic Festival. The event, which is scheduled to take place in June, will be headlined by JUDAS PRIEST, OPETH and MERCYFUL FATE. TRIVIUM‘s tenth album, “In The Court Of The Dragon”, was released last October via longtime label Roadrunner Records. The record was produced and mixed by Josh Wilbur and recorded in the fall of 2020 at Full Sail University in Orlando. The album cover is an original oil painting by French artist Mathieu Nozieres. Last fall, TRIVIUM completed a U.S. tour ...
In a recent interview with “The Daily Derringer Podcast”, bassist Mike Levine of Canadian rock legends TRIUMPH was asked if the band’s 2008 reunion shows in Sweden Rock Festival and Rocklahoma were meant to be a warm-up for a more extensive tour if they were always intended to be the group’s final gigs. He responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “There was bad blood going on between [guitarist/vocalist] Rik [Emmett] and [drummer] Gil [Moore] and I. And we decided it had to stop because we had too much love for each other over the years. And it just made no sense that we couldn’t keep playing, or least be friends. So we decided, ‘What a good idea. Let’s go play some shows.’ So we got the call from Sweden saying, ‘Would you ...
GUNS N’ ROSES guitarist Slash says that “there were a lot of different issues” that prevented Izzy Stradlin from being involved with the band’s reunion tour. While GUNS N’ ROSES‘ “Not In This Lifetime” trek features the “classic era” lineup of Slash, bassist Duff McKagan and singer Axl Rose — with the occasional guest appearance by drummer Steven Adler — Stradlin has not taken part in any shows on the tour, with unconfirmed reports claiming that he turned down a five-figure fee to play with GUNS N’ ROSES at the April 2016 reunion shows. Now, in a new interview with Classic Rock magazine, Slash has offered more information on the circumstances that led to Izzy‘s absence from the trek. When Classic Rock writer Paul Ellio...
Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” was the most-streamed song and the most-heard song on the radio in 2021, according to a new report from Billboard and MRC Data. The report, which surveyed music consumption trends over the past year, found that overall music consumption grew 11.3% from the previous year, with a 12.6% boost in on-demand audio streaming. Researchers attributed that increase to major albums from artists such as Adele, Drake, Olivia Rodrigo and Taylor Swift. They also credited TikTok with exposing listeners to new music, as well as reviving old favorite songs. Country singer Morgan Wallen’s Dangerous: The Double Album nabbed the title of the most-streamed LP of 2021 with 3.226 million equivalent album units, most of which came from online streaming. Spanning 30 tracks, Dangerous is the ...
After the release of his hotly anticipated Dawn FM album, it’s clear The Weeknd‘s penchant for dance music is more voracious than ever. The Weeknd has long championed electronic dance music, collaborating with the likes of Gesaffelstein, Daft Punk, and Disclosure, among others. However, Dawn FM twists the knife into this curiosity by presenting the most dance-forward album of his career. And it’s also his most creative yet. The album plays out like a radio station during a late-night drive in the 80s, featuring sultry interludes from Jim Carrey and Quincy Jones. But despite its escapist narrative and lovelorn motifs, at its core, the phantasmagoric Dawn FM was designed for dance parties. The proof is in the pudding. The Weeknd joined forces with disco-pop extraordina...
