03 Greedo has been released on parole from the Texas prison where he had been held since 2018, when he received a 20-year sentence for drug and gun possession. After a successful parole hearing in late June, Greedo spent the past several weeks completing a program to earn his freedom. He put out a mixtape celebrating his release, Free 03, on Tuesday, January 10. Police charged Greedo with drug and gun possession in 2018, after searching a car, on a dubious pretext, in which he had been traveling, as The Washington Post reported in 2020. Greedo was convicted of possessing more than 400 grams of methamphetamine, and of unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. “Never thought I’d have to retire the year I blew up,” Greedo tweeted of his sentencing in 2018, shortly after the release of The ...
The National are teasing something new. Matt Berninger and co. have taken to social media to share a new teaser clip, which depicts the vocalist at a piano bench with a coffee mug and copy of the classic Mary Shelly novel Frankenstein. In the clip, the vocalist turns to face his audience as a sparse piano line plays in the background. Check it out below. The post also includes a link to a password-protected section of their website at americanmary.com/lp9. As Stereogum points out, fans have already discovered that the password “EVIL FOREBODINGS” grants them access to the web page, which features a short video clip soundtracked by audio from two new songs. The clip features a static shot of an open book with text that’s similar to Shelly’s original novel, but with a few key differences...
If Lil Yachty took the ‘wok’ to Poland last year, then it’s only right that the Holy boy, Paxslim, sneaks his Holy water across borders too. The Swiss-based artist has released an all-new video for his latest track “Topp,” which finds the 21 year old rapper escaping to Berlin in Ravani over playful Bloody9ine production. Directed by Noyan and Nana, Pax’s day-in-the-life style lets fans in on hip-hop’s best kept secret. After dropping his fluorescent music video for “Colors,” Paxslim wrapped last year just as strong as he began it, releasing two videos — “Walking Smooth,” a song that lulls you into good vibes, produced by Yeat and Lancey Foux’s frequent collaborator, UK producer, Luca Malaspina; and “Dem Fast,” a chant showcasing his inimitable range across a series of micro-genr...
12 female Iranian artists have come together for Woman, Life, Freedom, a compilation featuring a dozen original songs supporting those fighting for freedom against the Islamic Republic of Iran. The project’s name is the English translation of “Zan, Zendegi, Azadi,” the official slogan of global protests against the current Iranian regime. Demonstrations have persisted worldwide after a 22-year-old woman named Mahsa Amini was allegedly killed by Iran’s religious morality police on September 16th. Hundreds of protestors have reportedly been killed in Iran, including dozens of minors. Human Rights Activists in Iran (HRANA) reported that an estimated 18,480 people had been arrested as of December 22. Curated by Iranian artists AIDA and Nesa Azadikhah, Woman, Life, ...
When Missy Elliott said, “DJ, please pick up your phone—I’m on the request line” in 2002, little did she know Skrillex would be on the other end over 20 years later. They’re now turning back the clock to the turn of the century, when everyone put their thang down, flipped it and reversed it. The formidable tandem of chart-topping artists have joined forces for a new track which interpolates lyrics from “Work It,” Elliott’s timeless hip-hop anthem. And if there’s anyone to breathe new life into Missy’s classic “ra-ta-ta” onomatopoeia, it’s Skrillex. Watch him work it onstage in London, where he recently dropped the banging electronic and hip-hop hybrid live: Elliott has also been teasing the song on Twitter, leading man...
A first-of-its-kind “choral rave” is coming to New York, according to its organizers, Choral Chameleon. The Brooklyn-based group, whose mission is to reframe choral music through experimental performance, have announced “Bigger Than My Song,” which will debut at the Irondale Center for Theater, Education and Outreach on January 20th. In collaboration with FEVER, the choir will work alongside DJ HeTheyWe for the unique dance music crossover show. Can you imagine playing in a cover band, only to be joined onstage by two real-life rock stars? That’s just what happened in Nashville earlier this week. Halestorm singer Lzzy Hale and multi-platinum rocker Chris Daughtry took the stage with an Alice in Chains tribute band at a local venue, performing a rousing rendition of “Man in the Box.” Nashville venue The Basement East hosts “Grunge Night,” and on Tuesday (January 10th) that included an Alice in Chains tribute band called Into the Flood. Hale and Daughtry showed off their powerful pipes while trading vocals on AIC’s breakthrough single “Man in the Box.” The night also included a rendition of “Rain When I Die” featuring Lzzy and her Halestorm bandmate Joe Hottinger. “Funny thing is the dress I wore is something I actually DID wea...
The National have dropped a teaser and a whole lit class’ worth of clues for their ninth studio album and follow-up to 2019’s I Am Easy to Find. Over on the band’s Instagram page, they shared a link to AmericanMary.com/LP9, where users are greeted with a prompt for a password. Enter the words EVIL FOREBODINGS, and you’ll be greeted with an altered version of the first pages of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Instead of a letter to Mrs. Saville, this missive is addressed to Mrs. Bridgers, while the name Margaret has been replaced with Taylor, and “our good Uncle Thomas” has given way to “our good Uncle Sufjan.” These are likely references to Phoebe Bridgers, Taylor Swift, and Sufjan Stevens, which lends credence to an alleged leaked tracklist that Amazon accidentally publis...

It’s one of the most high-profile K-pop collaborations of all time: BIGBANG‘s TAEYANG has recruited Jimin of BTS for his vibrant new throwback single, “VIBE.” The track marks TAEYANG’s first new solo release since his 2017 album White Night, as the vocalist and dancer went on to complete his time in the South Korean military in 2018. BIGBANG returned as a group in 2022 with the warmly received ballad “Still Life.” “VIBE,” meanwhile, is a catchy anthem perfectly fit for one of BTS’s strongest dancers — not only is the choreography a blast, but Jimin’s instantly recognizable and distinct vocals also inject the second verse with a burst of energy. What’s more, Jimin has called himself a fan of TAEYANG’s since BTS’s debut back in 2013, when Jimin named him as the artist he’d most love to ...
