Two decades after writing her first song, and almost 16 years after releasing her eponymous debut album, Taylor Swift accepted the Songwriter-Artist of the Decade award on Tuesday evening (Sept. 20) at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, during the annual Nashville Songwriter Awards. The honor celebrated Swift’s successes between 2010 and 2019, a time period that saw Swift fully transition from country to pop, amassing hits and fan favorites including the pop-country crossovers “Fearless,” “Mine” and “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” to the electrifying pop of “Shake It Off,” “Style” and “Blank Space” to more intimate tracks such as “Lover” and “New Year’s Day.” Explore Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news Nashville Songwriters Association Intern...
The lyrics of dance music’s most timeless contributions are being lost in translation, but does anyone mind? A new study examines the most commonly misheard song lyrics in modern times and their effects on our understanding of the music itself. A survey of 1,000 Americans by WordFinder revealed that the top 40 most misheard songs include several timeless electronic favorites from Far East Movement, Skrillex, Calvin Harris and more. We’re not sure if it’s the hunger talking, but comically, fans have been mistaking the hook from Far East Movement’s “Like a G6” as “now I’m feelin’ so fly like a cheese stick.” Aside from the silliness of it, this mistake is particularly interesting as listeners need only look at the title of the song ...
Bicycles can be vehicles for change when the right people are the engines powering them. That virtue isn’t lost on avid cyclist Jamie Kemp, whose journey to this year’s Amsterdam Dance Event will be a byproduct of sweat and stamina. Kemp is the Director of Sales at Toolroom Records, an influential record label helmed by house music luminary Mark Knight. Alongside over 30 others, he’s set to cycle 500 kilometers —roughly 310 miles—from London to ADE, the world’s preeminent electronic music summit. The philanthropic expedition is set for October 16-19. Kemp and his contemporaries are fundraising for Bridges for Music, a nonprofit that operates a number of schools offering holistic music programs for at-risk youth. “The simple act of helping others is something t...
On the same weekend she performed at Above & Beyond‘s Gorge Weekender, Nourey was also conducting research on climate change. When she’s not creating music, the Egyptian-born electronic music producer is working hard on her studies as a PhD student at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology. After sharing her art with fans onstage at the Gorge, Nourey conducted a 16-hour study at the weekend-long event, with the objective to educate attendees on how they can help the fight against climate change on a personal level. Now, she’s joining forces with Anjunabeats and her school to present her findings. Using an augmented reality-powered “art wall,” Nourey was able to gather over 400 responses to a climate change ...

Tiffany Haddish and Aries Spears are no longer facing a child molestation lawsuit after it was dropped by the plaintiff, according to TMZ. The Jane Doe who filed the suit asked the judge to dismiss the case with prejudice, meaning it can’t be refiled. “My family and I have known Tiffany Haddish for many years — and we now know that she would never harm me or my brother or help anyone else do anything that could harm us,” the woman said in a statement. “We wish Tiffany the best and are glad that we can all put this behind us.” In the lawsuit, the plaintiff, now 22, and her brother, now 14, recounted being filmed for sketch videos by Haddish and Spears in which they performed sexually suggestive acts. It accused both comedians of intentional infliction of emotional distress, gross negli...
