Gordy Harmon, a founding member of the long-running R&B group the Whispers, has died, ABC 7 Eyewitness News reports. Harmon’s family confirmed the news in a statement to ABC, saying that Harmon died in his sleep on Thursday (January 5) at his Los Angeles home. He was 79 years old. The Whispers formed in LA in 1964, and went on to score massive hits with singles such as “And the Beat Goes On,” “Rock Steady,” and “It Just Gets Better With Time.” Harmon created the group alongside twins Wallace and Walter Scott, Marcus Hutson, and Nicholas Caldwell (Caldwell died of congestive heart failure in 2016). After suffering an injury to his larynx, Harmon left the group in 1973, years before the release of “And the Beat Goes On,” which became their first No. 1 single. The Whispers issued three fu...

Shania Twain‘s new single “Giddy Up!” has topped this week’s new music poll. Music fans voted in a poll published Friday (Jan. 6) on Billboard, choosing Twain’s track as their favorite new music release of the past week. “Giddy Up!” brought in 87% of the vote, beating out new music by YoungBoy Never Broke Again, Popcaan feat. Lizzo took a moment on a Sunday morning to share her concerns about cancel culture. “This may be a random time to say this but it’s on my heart.. cancel culture is appropriation,” Lizzo tweeted on Sunday (Jan. 8). “There was real outrage from truly marginalized people and now it’s become trendy, misused and misdirected,” she wrote. Lizzo continued: “I hope we can phase out of this & focus our outrage on the real problems.” Just days before, the “About Damn Time” singer had taken to social media to shut down the “tired” “discourse around bodies.” “I’ve seen comments go from, ‘Oh my gosh, I liked you when you were thick. Why did you lose weight?’ ‘Oh my gosh, why did you get a BBL? I liked your body before.’ ‘Oh my gosh, you’re so big. You need to lose weight but for your health’ t...
The Weeknd has shared a music video for “Is There Someone Else?,” a cut from his latest album Dawn FM. Directed by Cliqua, the visual sees the singer bring a woman home, where he somewhat eerily watches her dance from him. He later dons a creepy plastic mask and wanders the city streets in the dead of night. “I know that you’re hiding something from me / That’s been close to your heart,” he croons. “And I felt it creeping up every day / Baby, right from the start/” “Is There Someone Else?” is listed as the tenth track on Dawn FM, The Weeknd’s fifth studio LP, released through XO and Republic Records. The music video celebrates exactly a year since the album debuted. He had been teasing the video on social media earlier this week, before dropping it in full. Watch the new music video for ...
With a new year upon us, King Crimson guitarist Robert Fripp and his singer wife Toyah Willcox are still serving up their “Sunday Lunch” performances. In the latest edition of the popular YouTube series, the couple cover The Offspring’s “The Kids Aren’t Alright.” Fripp nails the anthemic guitar riff, as Toyah dances behind him, singing the song’s bleak lyrics and waving a wind-blown silk scarf around. At one point the scarf comedically drapes over Fripp’s head while he’s still playing guitar. “The Kids Aren’t Alright” appeared on The Offspring’s 1998 album, Americana, and hit No. 6 on the Alternative Rock chart and No. 11 on the Mainstream Rock tally.
