Miley Cyrus describes her next album as a “love letter to LA.” Endless Summer Vacation, slated to drop on March 10 via Columbia Records, is the follow-up to 2020’s pop-rock Plastic Hearts. The album was recorded in the city to which it was dedicated and produced by Kid Harpoon, Greg Kurstin, Mike WiLL Made-It and Tyler Johnson. Cyrus bills it as a “very personal” project that finds her at “strongest and most confident.” The album is reflective of “the strength she’s found in focusing on both her physical and mental well-being,” she says. The Recording Academy on Thursday announced its latest slate of Life Achievement Award recipients. This year, the honorary Grammys will go to Nirvana, The Supremes, Ma Rainey and Slick Rick, as well as Nile Rodgers, Bobby McFerrin and Heart’s Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson. The highly-coveted trophies will be presented to each winner at the Special Merit Awards Ceremony, which is scheduled to take place on February 4 at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles. Marking the ceremony’s first iteration since 2020, the Special Merit Awards will commence just one day prior to the 65th annual Grammy Awards. Lou Reed’s Writings on Martial Arts Set for Release, With Laurie Anderson Foreword

A new book will compile the writings of Lou Reed—an accomplished tai chi practitioner from the 1980s until his death—on music, meditation, and martial arts. The Art of the Straight Line: My Tai Chi, out March 14 via HarperOne, features a foreword from the late artist’s partner, Laurie Anderson. The book comprises “unpublished writings on the technique, practice, and purpose of martial arts, as well as essays, observations, and riffs on meditation and life,” according to the publisher. Reed, who studied with Master Ren GuangYi, discussed the practice with artists, friends, and other tai chi practitioners, such as Iggy Pop, Tony Visconti, Julian Schnabel, and the late Hal Willner. IDLES rang in the new year with a performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday night. As the evening’s musical guest, the English post-punks performed “The Wheel,” a highlight form their 2021 album Crawler. From their various other late-night performances to their documentary, we know very well by now that IDLES know how to work a stage, whether it be a sweaty, scrappy punk venue or high up in the glossy studios of 30 Rockefeller Plaza. Their earth-shattering riffs, combined with the flashing strobe lights behind them, matched their ferocious energy.
