Well now, it appears that Drake is confirming rumors that he did get arrested on charges involving marijuana possession while performing at a club in Sweden—which his team has repeatedly denied, according to Complex—by posting footage of his alleged arrest on social media. However, his team has denied any news of him being arrested despite a hashtag #FreeDrake that went viral. The ever-elusive Drake kind’ve confirmed his arrest (or d...
Alan Rankine, the co-founder of the Scottish band the Associates, has died at the age of 64, BBC News reports. A cause of death has not been revealed. Rankine met the singer Billy Mackenzie in the 1970s, and they formed a duo called the Ascorbic Ones. They changed their name to Mental Torture before settling on the Associates. As the Associates, Rankine and Mackenzie released their debut single in 1979, a cover of David Bowie’s “Boys Keep Swinging.” The song helped them land a deal with Fiction Records, which issued the band’s 1980 debut, The Affectionate Punch; the Cure’s Robert Smith sang backing vocals on the LP. The group followed its debut with a singles compilation, Fourth Drawer Down, in 1981 and a sophomore effort, Sulk, in 1982. Sulk was a critical and commercial success and prove...

Skrillex has announced that he will release a double album in 2023. Earlier this week, the producer, whose real name is Sonny Moore, took to social media to share the news, writing, “QFF/DGTC 23.” The cryptic lettering was widely assumed to denote a pair of albums were on the way this year. deadmau5 has joined forces with YTCracker for “Antisec,” a gritty hip-hop and electronic hybrid out now via the former’s mau5trap label. YTCracker is a popular nerdcore rapper and former hacktivist (a portmanteau of “hack” and “activist”) with ties to the notorious hacker group Anonymous. The new track’s title derives from the AntiSec Movement, a cyberspace group opposed to the computer security industry. At the track’s onset, YTCracker kicks the door down and marks his territory: “I’m the de facto leader of a movement / Screaming ‘hack the planet’ back in ’99 / hacktivism in its prime.” From there, his brazen bars run roughshod through a canvas of deadmau5’s heavy-hitting bass and spacey arpegg...

Prog rocker Devin Townsend has high praise for Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger in a new interview, calling his fellow Canadian “a phenomenally intelligent human being.” Kroeger previously made a surprising guest spot on Townsend’s Empath album in 2019. When asked by Ultimate Guitar about the collaboration, Townsend was quick to speak highly of Kroeger, who has faced an exaggerated amount of criticism over the years for his work in Nickelback (Townsend had previously called Kroeger a “functioning genius” back in 2019). That said, Townsend admitted in the new interview that the two lead a different lifestyle. “Chad’s brilliant,” Townsend said. “Chad is a phenomenally intelligent human being. But he’s a rockstar, too, on levels that you and I will never participate in. And so there’s go...
You might think Hitler is dead, but the Hunters think differently in the new trailer for Prime Video’s alternate history revenge thriller. The second and final season comes debuts on January 13th. “You bring Hitler to justice and it’s done, Jon,” Meyers Offerman (Al Pacino) tells Jonah Heidelbaum (Logan Lerman) to kick off the trailer. “You can finally be free.” His presence might be somewhat unexpected given the events of Season 1, which he hints at by saying, “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” These flashbacks give way to Heidelbaum putting together a team of old friends and new faces and heading off to South America. Guns and explosives are definitely involved, and there might even be a “skull up the ass,” as a cover of Kelis’ “Milkshake” bops in the background. Advert...
Olivia Hussey and Leonard Whiting, who as teenagers brought Shakespeare to life in Franco Zeffirelli’s 1968 film Romeo and Juliet, are suing Paramount for child abuse over the movie’s nudity. As Variety reports, they are seeking damages “believed to be in excess of $500 million.” Whiting was 16 when he appeared in the movie, and Hussey began at 15 but turned 16 during production. For the famous, “It was the nightingale, and not the lark,” scene, Zeffirelli, who died in 2019, filmed Whiting’s butt and Hussey’s bare breasts. Now in their 70s, the actors allege that they had been assured there would be no nudity, only to be pressured the day of the shoot to expose themselves “or the Picture would fail.” “What they were told and what went on were two different things,”...
Last month, Metro Boomin dropped his long-awaited sophomore studio LP, Heroes & Villains. While the Atlanta producer has been busy on collaborative albums over the years, the project marked his first solo release since 2018’s Not All Heroes Wear Capes. Among the 15 star-studded tracks was a collaboration with Travis Scott and Young Thug called “Trance.” The song quickly became a fan-favorite for its murky club energy, cut by Scott and Thug’s high-pitched vocals. As it turns out, however, Drake was allegedly supposed to make an appearance on the single as well, at least at some point in the production process. An alternative “original” version of “Trance” began surfacing online over the weekend, which features bars from Drake alongside Scott and Thug. While it’s still unknown why Drake’...
