Barbados May Seek Reparations from Benedict Cumberbatch’s Family for Slavery

Barbados has begun seeking reparations from the descendants of slave owners, as The Daily Beast reports, and that may soon include the family of Oscar-nominated actor Benedict Cumberbatch. Cumberbatch’s seventh great-grandfather bought the island’s Cleland plantation in 1728 and passed down ownership until 1834, when slavery was abolished in Barbados. That plantation reportedly exploited 250 enslaved people and became the foundation of the Cumberbatch family fortune, a fact that the actor hasn’t shied away from. In a 2007 interview, according to the New York Times, Cumberbatch revealed that his mother urged him to pursue his career under an alias specifically to avoid paying reparations. Fred White, Earth Wind & Fire Drummer, Dead at 67

Fred White, former drummer of Earth Wind & Fire, has died at the age of 67. “Child protégé, member of the EWF ORIGINAL 9, with gold records at the young age of 16 years old!” his brother and bandmate Verdine White wrote in an Instagram post that announced Fred’s passing. After getting his start drumming for Donny Hathaway, Fred White joined his brothers Verdine and Maurice White in Earth, Wind & Fire in 1974. Sebastian Marino, Former Guitarist for Overkill and Anvil, Dead at 57

Sebastian Marino, who played guitar in the bands Overkill and Anvil, died at the age of 57 in the early morning of January 1st after being rushed to a hospital while working a sound job at a New Year’s Eve event in Florida. Marino was a member of Canadian metal heroes Anvil from 1989 through 1995, appearing on their 1991 album Worth the Weight. Upon learning of Marino’s passing, Anvil singer-guitarist Steve “Lips” Kudlow wrote, “Condolences to my friend Sebastian Marino’s family and friends. Seby was a dear friend and I will miss him profoundly!! Worth the Weight was an extremely special Anvil album and it will keep Seby alive through our history forever! Grammy award-winning Nigerian singer Damini Ogulu better known as Burna Boy has cursed his fans during his new year concert in Lagos.  Burna Boy took the stage at his Lagos concert pretty late and the fans were not happy about it. However, Burna Boy was did very little to pacify the angry fans as he began a rant of his own. He said the fans have always been disrespectful and have said many untrue things about him but he still shows up for them like he has done.
