David Guetta and MORTEN Tap John Martin for New Future Rave Banger, “Impossible”

Since early last year, David Guetta and MORTEN have been presenting their freshly minted “future rave” sound to the masses. They recently collided on “Save My Life” with Lovespeake, followed by “Dreams” with Lanie Gardner. Today they return once again for “Impossible” with John Martin. The unmistakable fusion of distinct and varied sounds acts as the centerpiece of “Impossible.” Martin’s signature tenor effortlessly guides listeners through a pounding bassline and whirling synths, putting all three artists’ signature sounds on display.  Over the past year, Guetta and MORTEN have unveiled a handful of hit collaborations to propagate their patented “future rave” sound, including a massive EP. Fans can ex...

Listen to San Holo’s Long-Awaited Sophomore Album, “bb u ok?”

It’s been a bit of a windy road to San Holo‘s long-awaited sophomore album, but it’s finally here—and it delivers. Spanning 20 tracks, the expansive album is a tour de force of San Holo’s career and finds him exploring a markedly more indie style. The Chet Porter-assisted “you’ve changed, i’ve changed” is a standout example with its angsty chorus and punk-inspired drum programming, as is “one more day,” an aching indietronica cut with Mija and Mr. Carmack that ties a bow on the LP. Holo largely eschews the soaring future bass sound that propelled him to international acclaim, instead opting for resounding 808s that rumble under light, feathery electroacoustic elements. This approach is executed with finesse in the spacey R...

Vindata Radiate Authenticity On Debut Album “…With Opened Eyes”: Listen

Since the early 2010s, Vindata have been refining a wholly singular sound. Their breakout single “All I Really Need” with Kenzie May helped catapult them into the spotlight, eventually attracting the attention of Skrillex and his OWSLA imprint. Following a period of reflection during their 2020 hiatus, they’ve now returned with their debut album …With Opened Eyes via Monstercat. …With Opened Eyes is a breath of fresh air, as Vindata’s incredibly authentic sound takes center stage. They’ve taken soulful elements of their religious upbringing and fused them with modern electronic elements, allowing listeners to navigate flourishing soundscapes that speak to their distinct persona. The funky, downtempo feel of the entire album is as impressi...

Marshmello’s EDM Roots Bubble to the Surface With Ferocious New Collab, “Hitta” With Eptic and Juicy J

Marshmello, Eptic, and Juicy J have joined forces for a monster collaboration called “Hitta.” While “Hitta” doesn’t quite represent a return to form for Marshmello, whose saccharine, fan-favorite future bass beats have taken a backseat to dance-pop and mainstream hip-hop, it’s an unmistakable return to his EDM roots. The track finds Marshemello tapping one of the electronic scene’s most revered sound designers, Eptic, for a hip-hop and bass music hybrid that doubles as an all-out assault on the senses. “Hitta” foams at the mouth with trap ferocity, highlighted by the bombastic dirty south flows of Three 6 Mafia’s Juicy J, who spits furiously over thunderous 808s in the verses. Stentorian brass shots and frenetic sta...

Gesaffelstein Emerges With Haunting Techno Single “Icia”: Listen

The Dark Prince of Techno has quietly emerged from the shadows with new music. Gesaffelstein recently unveiled his first single in over a year, and it’s nothing short of breathtaking. Never one to follow trends—and always one to set them—the French electronic music legend paints a cinematic portrait of isolation with “Icia.” It’s haunting and hypnotic, harkening to dark dancefloors and vintage acid house raves. Punchy drums and analog-driven sound design lend to an ambiance of urgency as robotic, phased vocals croon a melancholic refrain. Just as the listener settles in, Gesaffelstein suddenly switches to a moody chord progression before the track peters out to a subdued conclusion, engulfed in the silence of a rave’s end. “Icia” arrives via The Ha...

Listen to the Rollercoaster Ride That is AIRGLO and dela Moon’s “Chain-Melted State”

Fresh off of his mammoth collaboration “Freak Show” with MC Dino and Wraith, AIRGLO has made a quick return with another joint track on Play Me Records. This time around he’s teamed up with Muti Music and Street Ritual’s dela Moon for a single that will take listeners on a journey through sound and tempo. Bouncing back and forth from drum & bass and acid techno, “Chain-Melted State” is truly the best of both worlds. The track employs a sinister bassline and buildup that lead to a wild drum & bass drop at high tempo, before the first breakdown shifts the track downward in tempo to refresh the melody.  In its midsection “Chain-Melted State” evokes the true spirit of acid techno, retaining the eerie bassline while introducing a driv...

A song-cycle of dazzling bass music, Kismet’s Pride 2021 mix is representative of a seasoned selector and sonic storyteller—a dumbfounding notion considering they are only 16 years of age. It’s another indicator of their penchant for aching melodies and vulnerable songwriting, two ...
