After more than a year of anticipation, this week’s release of Cyberpunk 2077 from video game developer CD Projekt has been one of the hottest topics in the dance music world. Grimes has been at the center of the hype since leaking information back in February about the player experience and her role as the voice actor for character Lizzy Wizzy.  To celebrate the game’s long-awaited launch on December 9th, Grimes released a 17-track companion mixtape exclusively through Apple Music under the guise of her in-game character. Chris Lake and Armand Van Helden Team Up for “The Answer” EP

House legends Chris Lake and Armand Van Helden have teamed up for a new 4-track EP called The Answer. Since its release on Lake’s very own Black Book Records banner on Friday, December 11th, house heads everywhere have been hitting their stay-at-home dancefloors. The spark for this collaboration came at a Miami pool party where the two ran into each other in a hotel lobby. They exchanged emails, and a month later, they were in the studio making the magic happen.  The duo kicks things off with the record’s titular track “The Answer” featuring Arthur Baker and Victor Simonelli. Sampling the 1991 song “Why Can’t We See” by Blind Truth, the tune’s lyrics are simple yet powerful: “Love is the answer, we’ve got to live together.” As the first single off of the EP,...

Kid Cudi Sampled a Tame Impala Track on New Album Cut, “Dive”

Kid Cudi shook the music world after announcing his latest album Man On The Moon III: The Chosen would drop this week. Upon pre-ordering the album, some fans noticed another familiar name in the production credits, Kevin Parker, perhaps better known to the world as Tame Impala.  With the album out in full, we now know Mr. Rager sampled Tame Impala’s “Love/Paranoia” for his track “Dive.” The original track was the penultimate cut on Tame Impala’s Grammy-nominated album, Currents.  Kid Cudi maintains the densely atmospheric textures and alternative-rock influence that graced the original, but flips the tone a full 360 degrees, yielding a particularly moody result. Stylistically, the sample choice aligns well with the rapper’s Man On Th...

Geist Im Glas, translated to English as “Ghost in a Glass,” spotlights five outstanding remixers who explore four of the ten original tracks. Opening with a dreamy melody and brisk percussion, the track quickly transforms into a hybrid hardstyle and dubstep drop that fans of Kayzo are all too familiar with. The surprises don’t end there, however, as the second half kicks up the tempo before culminating in a turbulent drum &am...

deadmau5 and Kiesza Tap Tommy Trash for Enchanting Remix of “Bridged By a Lightwave”

Last month, deadmau5 and Kiesza shared their glowing collaboration “Bridged By a Lightwave” followed by an incredible live music video. In the midst of the single’s surging popularity, the pair recently announced that renowned house producer Tommy Trash would be providing an official rework of their tune. Today, he’s delivered his remix via mau5trap.  Tommy Trash’s remix of “Bridged By a Lightwave” is downright enchanting. It feels like a natural progression for the song, shrewdly using the bones of the original to reimagine the track while fully embracing his own sound. Kiesza’s haunting voice remains completely untouched, as the Australian dance music vet has stripped back the fluttery elements for sporadic synth trills ...
