When Friday crate-digging, it’s easy to get caught up with the releases from the well-known main stage slayers. Dig a little deeper, though, and you’ll find some heaters from debuting artists, like ESPER, who has dropped the curtain on “MY MIND” with Courtney Drummey. The debut track from the Frenchman is for all the rail-riders who are aching for that front row bass experience, mixing classical string elements and huge dubstep drops to create sonic ear candy for the most discerning bass-heads. Leading off with a string section, Drummey’s hypnotic vocals quickly take center stage before ESPER kicks the track into high gear. The guitars start to build, ushering in the low end that will have fans of REZZ and NGHTMRE head banging. The pr...

The highly anticipated collaboration between Calvin Harris and The Weeknd is officially out for our listening pleasure and it does not disappoint. The track shows Harris going back to his Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 1 days with a slow, soulful anthem for the heartbroken souls of the world. Along with the single comes a neon-soaked CGI video that feels like you’ve entered Tron on a psychedelic trip in Miami. “Over Now” is a shimmery piece of funky, R&B-inspired production. The groove-inducing bass guitar paired with the bright synth work is reminiscent of Daft Punk and allows The Weeknd’s signature crooning to take the lead. It’s the ultimate breakup track for anyone who needs to stand their ground to a persistent ex. Last week the two superstars shoc...

Within the scope of electronic music, there are producers, and then there are producers: artists, really, whose motivations fall neatly in line with a fascination with sound design, a hunger for sonic exploration and—most importantly—an enchantment with music and its creation. There is perhaps no finer example of the latter than Danish-born artist Galimatias, 29, who, for the last five years, has relentlessly worked to refine and expand his toolbox of music-making skills. He even moved to Los Angeles in 2015 to “focus on [his] craft” following the breakout success of his debut EP, Urban Flora, with Alina Baraz. The resulting music culminates in today’s release of Renaissance Boy, a sophisticatedly arranged and aurally effortless debut solo album crediting Galimatias for the fir...
London-based duo Heavy Vibes appeared in the EDM scene just this February with the independent release of their four-track EP, In II Reality. Now, the group returns with their new single, “Defy Me.” Immediately kicking off with guns blazing, the house-oriented “Defy Me” is loud and proud, incorporating bold bass beats, a four-to-the-floor rhythm scheme and a hearty dose of phaser effects. To boot, Heavy Vibes put a genre-bending spin on the song by fusing future house synths with a slower BPM and tropical house-inspired melodies. “This is our heaviest song to date, whilst still bringing a tonne of summer vibes and we’d imagine lots and lots of shuffling,” the duo wrote on their Instagram. Accompanying the release of “Defy Me&...
