Tiësto and Deorro, two of the electronic music scene’s most prolific hitmakers, have joined forces for the first time. “Savage” is out now via Tiësto’s venerated Musical Freedom imprint. The track is an eclectic fusion of both Tiësto and Deorro’s signature sounds, with an anthemic vocal sample and stentorian synths that unite within an intoxicating, four-on-the-floor beat. The pulsing bassline and snappy percussive elements are just two of the high-flying components fans would expect in a collaboration of this magnitude. Above & Beyond‘s Jono Grant has caught the synthwave bug. Working in secret alongside longtime friend and fellow trance producer Darren Tate, Grant has formulated a new collaborative alias, JODA. Dropping their debut track, “We Find Ourselves,” Tate and Grant say the single is inspired by 2011’s Drive soundtrack, one of the most acclaimed film scores of the modern era. The working relationship between Grant and Tate was first established nearly two decades ago. In 2003, they linked in the studio and produced two melodically dense, uplifting trance singles, “‘Let The Light Shine In” and “Nocturnal Creatures.” As Grant’s career began to take off with Above & Beyond and Tate’s solo career as DT8 prospered, the two...
After an unprecedented run of nine singles—yes, nine—Martin Garrix‘s debut club album is officially here in full. Sentio had been the talk of the town since Garrix’s scene-stealing set at the 2022 Ultra Music Festival, where he showcased the album to an awestruck crowd. He then went on to release a dizzying succession of singles over the course of the last month before today’s complete album, which features two new songs, “Oxygen” (with DubVision and Jordan Grace) and “If We’ll Ever Be Remembered” (with Shaun Farrugia). Spanning 11 tracks, Sentio is flush with cadence and crescendos, oscillating between poignant anthems and electro bangers with attitude. Garrix says he produced the album during the global lockdown period, and after seeing its...
Known for his funky electronic sound and Albeton tutorials, Australian DJ and producer Slynk generated his new single “Bust It” by showcasing the versatility of a sample pack. Back in January, Slynk uploaded a video to YouTube called the “Biggest Sample Pack Ever,” where he put Black Octopus Sound’s Leviathan IV bundle to the ultimate test. He decided that the best way to showcase the pack’s 6,500-plus sounds would be to create four songs in four different genres, and then put it all together as one. For this endeavor, Slynk chose to experiment with drum & bass, dubstep, glitch hop and synthwave. Watch him break down his process below. Upon completion, the Vancouver-based tastemaker came to realize that one of the songs he had produced for the ...
SG Lewis was the talk of the town last week after a surprise three-hour DJ set at Coachella‘s Do LaB on April 16th. An experimental mix of house, disco and techno, the performance proved an electrifying demonstration of his selector savvy. It was one of those experiences you just had to be there for—and now you practically can, thanks to Lewis’ decision to release the full recording. In it you’ll hear a diverse range of tracks, from Oxia’s “Domino” (one of the influences on his debut album, times) to StoneBridge’s “Put ‘Em High” (with Therese). Lewis also sprinkled in his own music, including “Impact” (with Robyn and Channel Tres) and a euphorically melodic rework of “Chemicals.” Curated by the cr...
“It really is more of a memento,” said Aluna of her new collaboration with Jayda G, “Mine O’ Mine.” “It’s a snapshot of the beginning of a beautiful new friendship.” Released April 26th via Mad Decent, “Mine O’ Mine” is a surprise release from two of the hottest names in today’s dance music landscape (just this month, Jayda G made her Coachella debut). Delightfully, the track features vocals from both: “Giving up, lying down, baby it’s misery. I need to get what’s mine o mine,” they intermingle on its chorus. Jayda G’s sonic strengths play out with rich, retro synths and a whirling guitar riff. Meanwhile, the ethos of Aluna shines through with a sultry topline and high-energy house b...
Class of 2022 artist Wreckno has teamed up with “Like a G6” singer DEV and Super Future for “EVERYTHING,” a pulverizing track that arrives by way of Four Loko Records. “EVERYTHING” is defiant and genre-bending, interpolating deep bass, snappy percussion and swaggy flows. The music video takes place in an old industrial warehouse and features a classic DeLorean vehicle with the falcon wing doors. The outspoken Wreckno is certainly no stranger to otherworldly sounds and powerful messaging. In 2021, he released his debut EP PANSY, which came one year after his gargantuan collaboration with GRiZ, “Medusa.” That track, a breakthrough for Wreckno, served as a Pride Month anthem. Madeon is holding the gaze of the electronic music community—and he won’t let go. The French virtuoso has been dazzling fans with his subversive “Good Faith Forever” live show, which just made two scene-stealing appearances at Coachella. And it hasn’t even been a week since he wrapped up his run at the iconic Indio festival, but he’s already back with new music. Madeon has finally released “Love You Back,” a long-awaited track that many fans thought may never escape the depths of his hard drive. He says it was originally intended to be a single on his Grammy-nominated Good Faith album, but despite playing it live at many of his shows, he ultimately “couldn’t figure it out at the time.” Released just in time for summer, the sun-kiss...
After the release of ODESZA‘s latest single from their fourth album, one thing has never been more clear: they won’t settle for the ordinary. The tandem have never shied away from roaming new sonic frontiers in their illustrious career, but The Last Goodbye is perhaps their biggest canvas for exploration. Case in point are the album cuts “The Last Goodbye” and “Love Letter,” which embraced house music in a way ODESZA never have before. But their new single, a subversive single called “Behind The Sun,” is markedly more haunting than its predecessors. “Behind The Sun” samples a song recorded by Simin Ghanem, an Iranian classicial singer born in 1944. Ghanem’s Persian chants bellow through ODESZA’s spellbinding sound...
We only needed one, but there’s now nine reasons to get fired up ahead of Martin Garrix‘s debut club album. The Dutch dance music titan has now unveiled the ninth and final single from Sentio, which drops in full this Friday, April 29th. This time around, he’s teamed up with STMPD RCRDS vet Blinders for an instrumental anthem called “Aurora.” The cinematic progressive house tune was originally a remix of “In The Name Of Love,” Garrix’s 3x Platinum global hit with Bebe Rexha. After playing out the track in many of his DJ sets, he decided to turn it into an original and team up with Blinders, a renowned Polish DJ who collaborated with Garrix back in 2018 on the fan-favorite electro house cut “Breach (Walk Alone).” Scroll t...
