Watch Swedish House Mafia Accompany The Weeknd to a Vogue Ball In New Music Video

While a high school gym may not seem like the most natural setting for a club, leave it to The Weeknd to pull it off. Complete with voguish, levitating dancers and a Michael Jackson-esque dance break, a new music video released by the chart-topping crooner is soundtracked by a remixed version of “Sacrifice,” which appears on his new Dawn FM album. Remixers Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello of Swedish House Mafia dramatically circle in the background as their mystifying rework swirls over the scene. Meanwhile, a moody visual filter pulls out rich color tones and adds to the video’s vintage feel.  “Sacrifice” samples Alicia Myers’ 1981 single “I Want to Thank You.” It’s part of The Weeknd’s new ...

Agent Zed Teams Up With HBz and Anna Grey to Breathe Life Into 1991 German Hit, “Aloha Hey”

On a mission to identify and rework influential hits from the 80s, 90s, and 2000s, Agent Zed’s latest release reimagines a German hit from 1991. Maintaining the original track’s earworm of a melody, Zed has transformed Achim Reichel’s 1991 single “Aloha Heja He” into a melodic house track with thumping beats, organic instrumentals, and a catchy chorus in English. For the creation of “Aloha Hey,” Agent Zed was supported by renowned German DJ and production duo HBz, who have worked on collaborations with the likes of THOVI, Lexi, and Harris & Ford, among others. The song also features the soothing vocals of rising 22-year-old singer-songwriter Anna Grey. You can find “Aloha Hey” on your preferred streaming platforms here and check out the official music vide...

“Onyx” Is The Quintessential Excision Album

It’s been three long years since his Excision‘s last album, but the day fans have been waiting for since 2018 is finally here. Starting off 2022 with a meteoric bang, Excision has unveiled Onyx, which delivers 17 tracks comprising instant classics, long-awaited IDs, and high-profile collaborations. Released on his label, Subsidia, Excision’s fifth album is the long-awaited follow-up to 2018’s Apex LP. Like a ride through a post-apocalyptic Jurassic Park, Onyx‘s opener, “Decimate,” flings listeners headlong into a mechanical labyrinth of cinematic and intense sounds. His signature, high-powered bass barrage pulverizes the arrangements in similar fashion in songs like “Demisaur” (with Kai Wachi), “Clockwork” (wi...

Pegboard Nerds and Sophon Team Up for Drum & Bass Banger “Shine”

The relationship between Pegboard Nerds and Monstercat is the gift that keeps on a giving. The Scandinavian bass music duo are longtime favorites of the Monstercat faithful, releasing music on the powerhouse indie electronic music label at a dizzying pace over the course of the last decade. Tracks like 2012’s “Disconnected” and 2016’s “Weaponize” continue to be rinsed by their dance music contemporaries in DJ sets and music festival performances. Pegboard Nerds have now returned to Monstercat with a riveting single called “Shine,” which arrives under the imprint’s “Uncaged” banner. A drum & bass banger, the new track was produced in collaboration with fellow electronic music duo Sophon, the side project of...

Moore Kismet Welcomes “Next Chapter” With Stunning Pauline Herr Collab, “Parallel Heartbreak”

“The purpose of my music is to exemplify my truths,” said Moore Kismet in a recent press release. “That’s what my music has always been for me: a way to get my stories and my thoughts out.” And they mean it—at only 17 years old, the prodigious producer is already known for wearing their heart on their sleeve. Now, as they enter a self-proclaimed “next chapter,” it’s clear that this guiding philosophy is here to stay.  Kicking off this era is “Parallel Heartbreak” (with Pauline Herr), a fluttering melodic trap ballad which expresses the fear of heartbreak that comes with the embrace of new love. The song dropped today, January 7th, via Thrive Music. “Parallel Heartbreak” begins with a sublime arrangement of plucks, which are s...

Electronic Music Pulls the Strings of The Weeknd’s “Dawn FM” Album—With Production From Calvin Harris, Swedish House Mafia

After the release of his hotly anticipated Dawn FM album, it’s clear The Weeknd‘s penchant for dance music is more voracious than ever. The Weeknd has long championed electronic dance music, collaborating with the likes of Gesaffelstein, Daft Punk, and Disclosure, among others. However, Dawn FM twists the knife into this curiosity by presenting the most dance-forward album of his career. And it’s also his most creative yet. The album plays out like a radio station during a late-night drive in the 80s, featuring sultry interludes from Jim Carrey and Quincy Jones. But despite its escapist narrative and lovelorn motifs, at its core, the phantasmagoric Dawn FM was designed for dance parties. The proof is in the pudding. The Weeknd joined forces with disco-pop extraordina...

Steve Aoki Reveals Unreleased Collab With “The Legend” Mac Miller

It’s been more than three years since the tragic death of Mac Miller in 2018, but the support of his friends and collaborators remains as strong as ever. So goes Miller’s relationship with Steve Aoki, who recently took to Twitter to reveal an unreleased collaboration with the late rapper. The track, Aoki remembered, features Miller’s vocals and can only be described as “magic.”  Aoki is not the first musician to acknowledge that, despite the posthumous release of Miller’s final album Circles—which featured a collaboration with Disclosure’s Guy Lawrence—it’s simply impossible to grasp the full scale of projects Miller worked on throughout his illustrious career.  Just last year, for example, an unearthed EP called your shoe...
