Immersive and spatial audio are becoming the next step forward in audio. Trance group Above & Beyond have now teamed up with Amazon Music to share remixes in Dolby Atmos’ spatial audio format. Reworked tracks include “Almost Home,” “Screwdriver,” and “1995” by gardenstate. When listening to the album, take note of how various synths and percussive instruments are placed in the mix. The percussion seems larger, synths have more room to move amongst the melodies, and time-based effects (like delay and reverb) fill in the space much more fluidly, giving the tracks a totally new feel. Listen to Above & Beyond and Amazon Music’s spatial audio playlist below. Recommended Articles Spatial audio is a new form of technology that brin...
One of the electronic music scene’s most cherished melodic dubstep producers has released his first album in over 10 years. On Christmas Day, Home, the long-awaited third album from Blackmill, finally arrived. The quiet producer did not launch any grandiose marketing campaigns or TikTok challenges to promote his new release, a serendipitous and unexpected drop for many. Despite being an extremely influential producer with millions and millions of streams, Blackmill chose to share updates on the progress of the album through scarce tweets and notes to fans in the captions of his YouTube videos. Despite its subtle release, Home is anything but. Blackmill picked up right where he left off with enchanting soundscapes and nostalgic production that tell a vivid and endearing story. Th...

Focusing on building a strong community on YouTube as a DJ via his consistent mixes, he has methodically gathered more and more attention, which ultimately led to the recent release of his debut single “Bubble Up.” Adrian Noble Noble’s slow rise shows nothing but strong signs of determination and versatility. When we caught up with him at Amsterdam Dance Event for an interview, ...

The renowned fashion designer, architect and DJ passed away at the age of 41 after a two-year battle with cancer. Now, iconic South African dance music producer and 2022 Grammy nominee Black Coffee has spearheaded his own special ode to his late friend and collaborator: a brand new DJ mix called For My Dear Friend V. After announcing that a remix album for Above & Beyond‘s seminal Group Therapy was on the way earlier this month, the group have finally unveiled the record with the help of a stacked roster of artists recreating some of their most iconic songs. Each of the artists selected to rework Group Therapy did a phenomenal job at paying respect to the original while adding their own unique spin. There is no singular theme throughout the album’s 12 remixes, which provide listeners with a familiar experience filled with twists and turns. Opening with CRi’s emotive remix of “Filmic,” the album quickly shifts gears with a fast-paced rework of “Sun & Moon” by trance music luminary Ilan Bluestone. This dynamic and swift change is mirrored by H...
Seven Lions is closing the year out strong, tapping Atlys to reimagine a number of his biggest hits in Opus, a new album of orchestral renditions. Although the idea of Opus isn’t something fans often yearn for, it’s an idea that fits perfectly into Seven Lions’s discography and aesthetic. His mystical world-building has long seemed like it could spawn an orchestral album and the one he’s released alongside Atlys, out now via his own Ophelia Records imprint, is perfectly executed. Seven Lions and Atlys have done a remarkable job at recreating some of his most prized tracks. “Only Now (in E Minor)” remains just as dynamic and moving as its predecessor, though stirs up completely new emotions. However, “The Blood (in E Minor” is the most ra...
Rising electronic dance music producers LeDoc and Guantanamo Bae have joined forces for “Deep Down,” an anthemic house tune. The mesmerizing track features Max C, the famed singer-songwriter behind the timeless vocal from Axwell’s “I Found U,” among many others. “Deep Down” fuses elements of progressive and slap house, ultimately creating a powerful, festival-ready number with pounding production. And with the retro cadence of its ageless vocalist, it’s a riveting blend of old-school and modern dance music that is primed for the clubs. “I have always been a big fan of Max C,” said LeDoc, who hails from Greece. “Tracks nowadays are always featuring high- or low-pitched vocals and sound the same. We wanted to br...
DJ St3v3 is making a powerful and unequivocal statement about his homeland in his latest single, “Africa Is Not A Country.” Despite Africa being the world’s second-largest continent, you’d be surprised how many people somehow think it’s a country. St3v3’s new single gets the message across with thunderous bass and blistering sound design in an arrangement designed for music festivals. “Africa Is Not A Country” is a ferocious, chest-thumping trap banger and an ode to DJ St3v3’s Ethiopian roots. The DJ and electronic music producer, who was born and raised in the Ethiopian capital of Addis Ababa, makes heavy use of the washint, a wooden flute originally used in Ethiopia by Amharic musicians. The lyrics also pay homage ...
