Elephante Explores Self and Sonic Identity In New Album, “Heavy Glow”

We all know too well what quarantine looks and feels like. But what does it sound like? Elephante attempts to answer this question with his latest album, Heavy Glow, released October 20th via Zoo Music/88Rising. The recorrd’s 10 tracks play like an epic, with emotion oozing from every chord. Intricately aligned arrangements signal to Elephante’s classical music training, while his own bold vocals tie together three acts of songs that purposefully push the boundaries of the album’s aural cohesion. The triumphant opening chords of “Break” (with Tiina), for example, are effervescent, paired with strong sonics and Tiina’s delicate vocals. Its sonics provide sharp contrast to “Down This Road,” an anthemic melodic bass ballad that takes a page...

Violin and Electronic Music Collide In Asher Laub’s Sublime Single, “Dreaming Awake”

With his electric violin in tow, powerhouse soloist and dance music producer Asher Laub has unveiled his latest single, “Dreaming Awake.” Laub blends elements of a myriad of genres in the blissed out track, such as electronic and funk, all the while flexing his versatility in a sublime crossover jam. Bubbly future bass synths and robust, house music-inspired percussion make up the backbone of the arrangement, which Laub sends into the stratosphere with his signature, soaring violin riffs. A classically trained violinist, Laub’s innate skill and love of the instrument pervade this peppy instrumental song. Fans of Miri Ben-Ari or Lindsey Stirling will really gravitate to the aptly-titled “Dreaming Awake,” which expertly blends energy and mela...

EPROM and Alix Perez’s SHADES Shatter Boundaries In New EP: Listen

Conventions be damned, SHADES have unveiled a bizarre and beautiful EP called The Dance Of Death. Comprising EPROM and Alix Perez, the SHADES duo have operated at the forefront of the post-trap era since their 2016 debut, solidifying themselves as revered sound designers in the electronic music community. The Dance Of Death serves to reinforce this notion via a record which deconstructs the tried-and-true arrangements of modern bass music, and to offer a much more nuanced approach. In other words, make sure you listen with a good pair of headphones. Alix Perez (L) and EPROM (R) of SHADES. c/o Press The EP slithers into focus with a cinematic intro called “The Creation.” Devoid of drums, it sets the tone for the ensuing experimental mayhem of “The Corruption...

Anna Lunoe Teams Up With Genesis Owusu for Silky Smooth House Track, “Back Seat”

When it comes to electronic music-making, it truly can take a village. Anna Lunoe‘s latest release, a collab with Genesis Owusu called “Back Seat,” is our case in point.  Out via the Nina Las Vegas-helmed NLV Records, “Back Seat” is a hip-shaking acid house triumph. It’s also Lunoe’s first original single of the year, marking an exciting return for the Australian dance music veteran. The song shines bright with Owusu’s silky smooth vocals. They’re perfectly matched by an infectiously funky bassline from Aussie artist Touch Sensitive, guaranteed to be stuck in your head for days.  And those aren’t the only friends who pitched in, according to Lunoe. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs and...

SVDDEN DEATH‘s latest track puts the evil in medieval. In the midst of his fall tour, which features his biggest production to date, the dubstep superstar has dropped one of his most anticipated records. Titled “Transmutation Sequence,” the track skyrocketed to the top of his fans’ list of favorites the second it made its live debut. Embodying all the themes that make for an all-time SVDDEN DEATH release—and dripping with his signature style—it’s very easy to see why fans held their breath for so long. Louis The Child Showcase a Matured Sound On “Euphoria” EP

Louis The Child have showcased their most mature sounds to date on Euphoria EP. The Chicago native duo, who have made their name on youthful future-pop tracks with easily digested singalong lyrics such as “Better Not,” “Weekend” and more, didn’t hesitate to think outside the box. From a production standpoint, it’s easily the duo’s most innovative effort since their start. On the whole, Euphoria is an EP of great contrast. At the core of it, Louis The Child’s dedication to lush melodic soundscapes remains unwavering, but with a heavy dose of pumping kicks and biting bass added to the mix. Hearing the duo in this context makes everything feel as new and exciting as when we first listened to them.  Recommended Articles This contrast of expe...

Defunk Channels Old-School Dubstep With Mind-Bending Banger, “Chase The Vibe”

Remember when Flux Pavilion’s anthemic “I Can’t Stop” blasted through your speakers on repeat a decade ago? Same. And even though he has since moved on from dubstep, his contributions to the scene remain indelible. Reminiscing on the 2010s, an influential era for dubstep, Canadian electronic music producer Defunk decided to commemorate the genre’s formative sounds by tapping into the essence of those iconic anthems released 10 years ago. “I first was introduced to electronic music in the age of Flux Pavilion, Doctor P, Skrillex, et cetera. That time was full of sawtooth sounds and wobbles, and I really wanted to make a throwback track to honor that classic sound,” Defunk told EDM.com. “‘Chase the Vibe’ is that throwback track, try...
