Grace McKagan, the daughter of Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan, has unveiled the music video for her new song “Baby That’s Rock N Roll.” Grace goes for a garage-rock sound this time around, combining a driving beat with fuzzed-out guitars. Director Connor Ellmann’s Super 8-style video adds to the vintage aesthetics, as Grace rides through the Hollywood hills on the back of a motorcycle. “The single speaks to the current mainstream attitude towards rock music, and how distorted it is from the original depth and authenticity from which it was derived,” Grace McKagan said in a press statement. “I’m not the guru on what rock is or isn’t, but the personification of the genre has evolved a lot, especially in these past couple of years. Studs, dirty sex, a guitar riff on a pop song, and wearin...
Nigo has shared another new song from his upcoming album I Know NIGO, and this time, Kid Cudi is the MC to the fashion designer’s club beat. Check out the duo’s collaboration “Want It Bad” below. Produced by Pharrell Williams, “Want It Bad” sees an über-autotuned Cudi proclaim his desires Veruca Salt-style over moody synths. “I want to sleep good at night/ I want a temple, that’s right,” he sings, as bass pulses. “I’m finally on the up and up/ Can not stop, can’t have enough,” he insists. In the accompanying music video, directed by Harrison Boyce, the duo speed through the streets of Paris in a fancy Porsche before hitting the club. While Nigo maintains a silent background role in the clip, Cudi hams it up, red hair and black eyeshadow putting other wannabe punk rappers to shame. Advertis...
Perhaps not the parting gift we deserve, but definitely the parting gift we need: Desiigner has shared the music video for his new single “Bakin,’” which stars, of all people, the late, great, Bob Saget, in one of his final roles. Alongside co-writers Slushii and DJ Whoo Kid, Saget makes bacon (with the help of sous-chef/adult film star Kendra Sunderland) for Desiigner in the music video, a double entendre that the actor himself called “the best dad joke ever” in behind-the-scenes footage of the shoot. America’s Dad probably isn’t the personal chef most rappers would think to hire for their baking needs, but when Desiigner calls his pal Snoop Dogg at the beginning of the clip looking for recommendations, Snoop insists, “Get Bob on the job.” Thank God he pulled through. DJ Whoo Kid to...
Rising Compton rapper Buddy has announced his sophomore album Superghetto, due out March 25th via Cool Lil Company/RCA Records. As a preview, he shared the new single “Wait Too Long” featuring fellow LA native Blxst. Superghetto will arrive four years after Buddy’s major label debut Harlan & Alondra, but he’s considerably raised his profile since then by contributing extensively to the Dreamville compilation Revenge of the Dreamers III, opening for Vince Staples, and performing at NPR’s Tiny Desk. He also released “Black 2” — a track calling out those who like to appropriate and profit from Black culture — during the period of civil unrest following the murder of George Floyd. In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Buddy explained how his upbringing influenced Superghetto. ...
Singer-songwriter Sarah Beth Tomberlin is preparing to release a new album: The folk artist’s sophomore record i don’t know who needs to hear this… is due out April 29th via Saddle Creek. Along with its announcement today, Tomberlin has shared the new single “happy accident,” as well as North American and European tour dates for Spring 2022. Tomberlin wrote i don’t know who needs to hear this… with the intention of giving listeners an opportunity to hold the space to feel the depths of their emotions. Here, she blends the homey folk of Joni Mitchell with the moody pop of Frank Ocean and the chilling ambient of Grouper. Now that Tomberlin has settled into her new home base of Brooklyn among a fleet of musical collaborators, much of i don’t know who needs to hear this… was rec...
Charli XCX and Rina Sawayama are unleashing their witchcraft in the music video for their new single “Beg for You.” The Nick Harwood-directed visual for the infectious dance floor banger finds the two avant-garde stars quite literally on an altar, surrounded by other young women in shades of red, pink, and black as they’re forced into a ritual by a white-cloaked priest of the occult and his latex-clad assistant. “Oh don’t you leave me this way/ Won’t you wait another hour or two?/ You know I need you to stay/ Don’t make me beg for you/ ‘Cause I’ll beg for you” Charli belts as she slices her hand and her blood pours into a red pool for the priest to drink. However, the duo’s innate power ultimately wins out, taking over the other women in a freeing dance party as sparks explode around them....
Ibeyi have announced the coming release of their latest album Spell 31, out May 6th via XL Recordings. The duo also shared the new single “Sister 2 Sister” as a preview. The studio set will be the third album from the soul-R&B act, made up of Afro-French Cuban twins Lisa-Kaindé and Naomi Diaz, following their 2015 self-titled debut and 2017 follow-up Ash. The 10-track LP features collaborations with the likes of Jorja Smith (“Lavender & Red Roses”) and BERWYN (“Rise Above”), as well as Pa Salieu on the previously-released lead single “Made of Gold.” On the joyful “Sister 2 Sister,” the fraternal twins celebrate their bond, name-dropping Shakira and spelling out the pronunciation of their stage name (which means “twins” in Yoruba, the language of the siblings’ West African ancestors...
Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift have unveiled their new remix of “The Joker and the Queen.” The accompanying video, which can be seen below, continues the storyline from their 2012 collaboration, “Everything Has Changed.” Set ten years later and featuring the original actors, the Emil Nava-directed video captures the coming-of-age story of Ava and Jack, now 18 years old, as they head to university and embark on new adventures. Watch it below. The wistful ballad originally appeared as an album cut on Sheeran’s latest album =. Fans originally began speculating that Swift would appear on a new version of the song after her name was spotted multiple times in Easter Eggs from Sheeran’s “Overpass Graffiti” music video. Of course, this is far from the first time the good pals have collaborated togeth...
Foo Fighters have lots of respect for the great artists who have come before, whether that’s Bee Gees, Van Halen, or the Fraggles. That’s right, Dave Grohl and friends perform alongside their esteemed muppet peers in the new music video for “Fraggle Rock Rock.” The Foos unveiled the song last month to coincide with the debut of Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock on Apple TV+. The video finds them sharing the stage — or trying to, at any rate, because some of these Fraggles aren’t very good at ceding the spotlight. Occasional tussle aside, everyone seems to be having fun, as you can see in the video below. Foo Fighters aren’t the only humans who will be venturing to Fraggle Rock. During the 13-episode run, Patti LaBelle performs “Shine on Us Now (Moon Come Soon),” ...
