Oso Oso Share Sweeping New Single “De Facto”: Stream

Oso Oso, the emo-pop project of Jade Lilitri, has returned today with a new single called “De Facto.” Lilitri wrote and performed nearly every instrument on “De Facto” with the exception of drums, handled by Jordan Krimston. The song is right in line with Oso Oso’s usual schtick of sweeping, bittersweet melodies, but thankfully, that schtick has yet to get old. The introduction layers blasts of rapid hi-hat hits with Lilitri’s filtered, atmospheric vocals, before the song explodes into a chorus tailor-made for a friendly mosh pit. The latter half of “De Facto” culminates into a rousing breakdown before dropping the volume again for its bridge: “I had this dream/ I fell into/ The TV screen,” Lilitri sings, his vocals distorted once more like he’s relaying this vision to you from a playgroun...

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard Share Breathless, Nine-Minute Single “Iron Lung”: Stream

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard have released the new single “Iron Lung” from Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava, their first of three albums coming in October. The nine-minute psych-rock jam comes with an equally trippy animated music video by SPOD. “Iron Lung” initially follows a measured, jazzy beat that expands with flutes, saxophone, and crunchy guitar riffs to an explosive peak. In a statement, guitarist Stu Mackenzie called the track “the ultimate collab,” sharing, “We wrote the lyrics as a group and created the music out of improvisation. Spontaneous creation. The best kind.” The accompanying music video mirrors the song’s lyrics, specifically the “different kind of cuttlefish.” More importantly, it portrays the titular breathing apparatus’ description of “Frog breat...

Rage Against the Machine Cancel 2023 North American Tour

Rage Against the Machine have canceled their run of North American tour dates in 2023 as frontman Zack de la Rocha continues to recover from a torn Achilles tendon. de la Rocha injured his leg four songs into the band’s concert on July 11th in Chicago — the second show of the highly anticipated “Public Service Announcement Tour.” He was able to finish RATM’s 2022 North American leg by performing each concert from a seated position, but it appears that’s not a tenable solution going forward. “Unfortunately it is a moment that requires a lot of work and healing,” de la Rocha wrote in a note announcing the tour’s cancelation. “I have a severe tear in my left Achilles tendon and only 8% of my tendon was left intact. And even that portion was severely compromised.” Advertisement Related Video “...

XO Records Singer Chxrry22 Releases Debut EP ‘The Other Side’

Toronto singer Chxrry22 is telling the bittersweet story of missing a past partner on her new EP The Other Side. Out now, the cathartic R&B record charts the singer’s yearning for old love with her drive to prioritize herself across 7 tracks in a compact 20-minutes. “The Other Side is about coming to terms with duality – we all have two sides,” Chxrry22 said. “We can be both the villain and the victim in some story and this is me owning that.” The bulk of production comes from the label’s own Sensei Bueno, but Atlanta-based producer Childish Major has co-production credits on the track “Wasteland.” The singer is the latest addition to The Weeknd’s XO Records. Born in a Toronto suburb to Ethiopian immigrants, Chxrry22 began releasing music online in 2017. After garnering a small li...

Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw Will Skip Another Year

Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw won’t be taking place this year. Curated by Tyler himself, the music festival brings together alternative hip-hop and R&B acts across a weekend in Los Angeles. “It’s really not that deep,” Tyler’s manager Chris Clancy told Billboard. “Tyler toured all year and was busy with a number of projects. Reading the tea leaves and what’s happening with festivals coming out of the pandemic, we thought it would be best to come back next year.” Over the past year, Tyler has been touring his GRAMMY-winning sixth studio LP, Call Me If You Get Lost, hitting 32 cities across North America alone. The artist was also just announced to be joining season six of Nick Kroll’s animated series Big Mouth in a guest role. The inaugural Camp Flog Gnaw took place in 2012 and...

Steve Lacy’s “Bad Habit” Nabs the No. 1 Spot on the Billboard Hot 100

After a month spent at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, Steve Lacy’s “Bad Habit” has scaled the list to overtake the No. 1 spot. The hit track marks the singer’s first No.1 chart-topper. Released as the second single from Lacy’s sophomore album Gemini Rights, the ballad features a funky beat over which the singer croons about not seeing things through his partner’s eyes. “I wish I knew, I wish I knew you wanted me,” Lacy sings in the chorus. While the singer emerged on the scene as a member of hip-hop collective The Internet, an offshoot of Odd Future, his latest LP marked an evolution in the singer’s music. Shifting from the alternative hip-hop sound of the Internet and his first album, Apollo XXI, Gemini Rights saw Lacy dive further into rock and R&B. The top slot where “Bad Habit” no...
