Fairchild Photo Exhibit Features Vintage Shots of Musical Luminaries, From Grace Jones to Debbie Harry
On Friday (Sept. 9), the morning of the first official day of New York Fashion Week, which runs through Sept. 14, the Fairchild Fashion Museum launched its first New York City exhibition, curated by Women’s Wear Daily, Footwear News and Beauty Inc. (Billboard shares a parent company, Penske Media Corporation, with those brands.) Entitled “A Matter of Style,” the exhibition is a two-day pop-up event taking place Sept. 9-10 at AG Studios on 52 Walker Street. The xx’s Oliver Sim Leads With Vulnerability on Subversive Solo Endeavor ‘Hideous Bastard’
Oliver Sim, one-third of the English indie rock group The xx, spent two years writing and recording his debut solo album. Today, Sim has released the long-awaited LP, entitled Hideous Bastard, a raw exploration of shame, trauma, fear, masculinity and sexuality. On the record’s lead single “Hideous,” Sim considers his HIV-positive status and how it’s shaped his perception of himself. “Radical honesty might set me free, if it makes me hideous,” he croons. “Been living with HIV since seventeen / Am I hideous?” The track features the album’s sole guest artist, Scottish pop singer and gay rights activist Jimmy Sommerville. Yeat has dropped off a new 12-track EP, titled LYFË, featuring support from Lil Uzi Vert on its opening track, “Flawlëss.” LYFË arrives as the follow-up to Yeat’s 2 Alivë, which was released in February of this year. The Afghan Whigs Share New Album How Do You Burn?: Stream
The Afghan Whigs have revealed their new album, How Do You Burn?, the band’s first release in five years. Greg Dulli and co. first got to work on How Do You Burn? in September 2020. Despite the years apart, the band were able to assemble the album remotely, with frontman Dulli, his co-producer Christopher Thorn and drummer Patrick Keeler together in California, bassist John Curley in Cincinnati, guitarist Jon Skibic in New Jersey, and strings man Rick Nelson in New Orleans. “Once we got the system down, we started flying,” Dulli says in a press release. Dulli also spoke about the album in a recent appearance on Kyle Meredith With…, detailing Thorn’s involvement and the saints and sinners that populate the collection.
