This week, Tegan and Sara are back with an ode to the music of Coldplay on “Yellow.” It’s been six (!) years since a full-length Tegan and Sara album. As the beloved sister duo gears up for the October 21st release of their tenth LP, Crybaby (via Mom + Pop Music), they’ve started rolling out previews of the new era, including their latest, “Yellow.” It’s no mistake that it bears the same name as one of the most famous love songs in recent decades — Coldplay’s “Yellow” — and is rather directly referencing it in the accompa...
Oh, behave! Back in the early 2000s, Beyoncé memorably made her theatrical film debut in Austin Powers in Goldmember, and Solange almost played a part in the comedy before Tina Knowles shut it down. According to Vulture‘s oral history of Queen Bey’s time as Foxxy Cleopatra, a then-15-year-old Solange was all set to serve as her sister’s back-up singer in the 2002 three-quel. “I remember Beyoncé and I giggling because [Solange] was young and everything in Austin Powers is so suggestive,” recalled choreographer Marguerite Derricks. “‘He’s got the Midas touch, but he touched it too much’ — that was a lyric that we were freaking out about for her sister.” However, when it came time to shoot the scene, Tina Knowles put her foot down. Costume designer Deena Appel explained, “What happened, the w...

Ricky Martin’s 21-year-old nephew has reportedly been identified as the individual who was granted a restraining order against the pop singer earlier this month. A Puerto Rican judge approved the restraining against Martin on July 1st, but the identity of the accuser had been unknown until now. According to Spanish newspaper Marca (via People), Martin’s brother, Eric, identified the artist’s nephew, Dennis Yadiel Sanchez, as his accuser. According to the restraining order, which was filed under Puerto Rico’s domestic violence law, Martin and Sanchez had been in a seven-month relationship. Martin allegedly refused to accept their breakup and was found loitering outside of Sanchez’s home on three different occasions. Sanchez also accused Martin of physical and psychological abuse. It may be Cancer season, but Steve Lacy has released his new album Gemini Rights via L-M Records/RCA Records. The studio effort — The Internet guitarist’s sophomore solo outing — arrives a little over three years after 2019’s Apollo XXI and contains singles “Mercury,” “Bad Habit,” and the Fousheé collab “Sunshine.” “Gemini Rights is essentially me coming into myself after a breakup,” the artist said in an interview with The Recording Academy a few days before the album’s release. “It’s a story that is very fluid [and] very fun. To me, the subject matter could be sad if you look at it that way, but I feel like it is way more hopeful — and that’s the story: finding happiness. I’m finding myself after a heartbreak and I am excited for people to hear this record.” Advertisement Related Video D...

VIP areas and the interiors of a kaleidoscope are both similarly dazzling, and in a stroke of genius the video for Calvin Harris‘ latest, “Stay With Me,” combines these two spaces with glitzy visuals and even glitzier stars. Released Friday (July 15), the clip places the track’s featured vocalists, Halsey, Justin Timberlake and Pharrell, inside a shimmying, spinning, lightly psychedelic universe, where each of them — dressed in dazzling brights — perform the funk-inflected disco opus, with Timberlake giving just the right amount of air guitar and evoking the video for Jamiroquai’s classic “Virtual Insanity” while dancing on a moving walkway.
