In a statement, the artist revealed how she got over writer’s block. “Recording this album was a way back to myself after being stuck in survival mode,” Santigold explained. “It wasn’t until I made the space to create that I realized I wasn’t only creating music but a lifeline. California was on fire, we were hiding from a plague, the social justice protests were unfolding. I’d never written lyrics faster in my life. After having total writer’s block, they started...

Back in November, days before the release of Life Is Yours‘ lead single “Wake Me Up,” Foals frontman Yannis Philippakis assured listeners that this album would be a return to a “sweaty, late-night dance floor.” He wasn’t kidding: Life Is Yours is undoubtedly the most groove-oriented, shimmering Foals album yet, destined for the peak of a wild night and smartly positioned as an antithesis to a long period of lockdown. If you are a Foals fan, the streamlined style of Life Is Yours is a bit of a left turn, albeit one that’s closer to the frenetic dance punk of their debut Antidotes and the introspective glow of Total Life Forever. Though a restless energy populates the dance-centric Life Is Yours, there’s very little agitation in the mix — where previous Foals jams like “I...
Bret McKenzie is taking a pause from his comedy group Flight of the Conchords and swooping towards his first-ever solo album Songs Without Jokes this summer. Before the LP is released on August 26th via Sub Pop, the New Zealand musician has shared another sample of it today with the new single “Dave’s Place.” Like most of his songs, McKenzie originally wrote “Dave’s Place” on his guitar at home. What began as a simple country tune eventually grew into a “Dire Straits-esque” blues-rock jam after bringing it to the studio with producer Mickey Petralia in Los Angeles. Despite the song’s peppy, sunshiney flair, the meaning of its lyrics is much more bittersweet. “The song is called ‘Dave’s Place’ after the late Dave Bianco,” McKenzie explains in a press release. “Dave was an amazing audio...

By Carson Mlnarik Pale Waves have never been better. The English indie-rock band are spending their summer opening up for 5 Seconds of Summer on their North American tour and putting the finishing touches on their highly anticipated third album, Unwanted. Frontwoman Heather Baron-Gracie has officially traded in her dark locks for a bleach-blonde bob, setting the tone for their new record of breakneck pop-punk ahead of its August 12 release. All things considered, it’s ironic that their latest single “Reasons to Live,” a euphoric, arena-ready love song, was inspired by one of her darkest moments. “I was lost. I didn’t even know if I wanted to do music anymore,” Baron-Gracie tells MTV News. “Then my partner Kelsey came into my life and just completely changed that and gave me a whole differe...

Post Malone delivered a stunning cover of Pearl Jam‘s “Better Man” during his recent appearance on the Howard Stern Show. The twelve carat toothache artist revealed that he was first made aware of Pearl Jam by Jordan, his older brother, who was a marine stationed in Hawaii. “We went out to go see him. I was 12, 13, maybe, and he played this song. We were driving around, and this was done in an island you can drive around in a couple hours. And he played it, and I guess I’ve just been thinking about that a lot lately,” Posty explained. He also shared to Stern that he thinks about Jordan during “every moment” when this song plays, “And it makes me f*cking cry.” He clarified that Jordan is still very much alive though, and even called him a “beautiful man.” Malone is set to hit the road ...
