America’s Got Talent is back on our screens, and, for Tuesday night’s (May 31) season 17 premiere, XOMG POP provided all the screams. XOMG POP was founded by JoJo Siwa and mom Jessalynn, both of whom stood in the wings as the sparkly girl group lit up the room with an original song, “Candy Hearts.” “I’m guessing this is about world domination,” Simon Cowell said ahead of the performance. He was only half kidding. The energetic routine was slick and colorful and had the youngsters in the audience grooving along. When Miranda Lambert finally won entertainer of the year for the first time at the 2022 ACM Awards on March 7, she clinched what the Academy of Country Music likes to call its “triple crown” — a win in the appropriate new artist category; in the appropriate male, female, duo or group category; and for entertainer of the year. Lambert wasn’t present at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas to accept her entertainer of the year award in person, but she will be on hand to receive the Triple Crown Award at the 15th annual ACM Honors at the fabled Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Aug. 24. Merle Haggard was the first artist to meet the three-pronged criteria to receive the Triple Crown award back in 1971 — though the ACM didn’t come up with the bright idea to present Triple Crown winners with a new awa...
Billy Bragg has welcomed Australia’s new leader Anthony Albanese as “the right person for the job”. The legendary British singer, songwriter and activist, and Albo, as he’s affectionately known, have a lot in common. The pair met at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre in the late 1990s and immediate hit it off with a “shared love of music and a commitment to the politics of compassion,” Bragg writes in a social media post. Only now, Albanese is the prime minister-elect of Australia. The respect is mutual. During his first official press conference as PM, Albanese quoted Bragg’s “To Have and To Have Not,” noting “just because you’re going forwards, doesn’t mean I’m going backwards,” a nod to his Australian Labor Party’s progressive agenda. The ALP’s May 21 election win could yet have a ripple eff...
