Soccer Mommy Announces New Album Sometimes, Forever, Shares “Shotgun”: Stream

Soccer Mommy has announced a new album called Sometimes, Forever. The third LP from Sophie Allison arrives June 24th via Loma Vista, while first single “Shotgun” is available to stream now. After working with indie producer Gabe Wax for 2018’s Clean and 2020’s color theory, Soccer Mommy enlisted Daniel Lopatin, the electronic producer behind Oneohtrix Point Never, for Sometimes, Forever. The album picks up where color theory left off, blending lush synths with Allison’s perennial fixation with 2000s pop. The record gets its title from the concept that neither sorrow nor happiness is permanent — that our strongest emotions feel like they’ll last forever, but quickly get brushed aside by something new.  “Sorrow and emptiness will pass, but they will always come back ...

St. Vincent‘s Attention To Technology Keeps It Timeless

By Amanda Silberling An eponymous album marks a major moment in an artist’s career. For women, owning one’s work, body, and artistry can be especially powerful, even political. Throughout Women’s History Month, MTV News is highlighting some of these iconic statements from some of the biggest artists on the globe. This is Self-Titled. My friend died about a month ago, which is still hard for me to understand. We remember it when her relatives tag her in Facebook posts, throwing every picture they have of her into the digital ether, desperate to make sure she will continue to exist. Or, we remember it when we log onto Spotify and we no longer see what songs she’s listening to. St. Vincent made a similar observation eight years ago, that the social internet isn’t built to ac...

I needed somebody else.” She worked with producer Randall Dunn on the project, and also enlisted Matt Chamberlain (Fiona Apple, Bob Dylan) for drums. Allowing other people to contribute to her art allowed Danilova to play with spontaneity instead of meticulously crafting every detail of the record. At times, this allowed the classically trained singer to d...

The trio released nine studio albums across their career; their last release was 2015’s Freedom Tower – No Wave Dance Party 2015. In a new interview with Kreative Kontrol podcast, Spencer said that shortly after their last album’s release, Bauer contracted a respiratory illness that made it difficult for the band to continue. “We had a good run,” Spencer said.
