Watain Drop Off Co-Headlining North American Tour with Mayhem Due to Visa Issues

Mayhem and Watain’s North American co-headlining tour was set to be one of the year’s strongest exhibitions of infernal black metal. Unfortunately, Watain won’t be making the trip due to visa issues. Watain are known for their occult, ritualistic live shows, which are thus treated with a near-religious reverence by their dedicated fanbase. The Swedish band only make it stateside ever so often, and to make matters worse, the tour was meant to support a new album, The Agony & Ecstasy of Watain, out April 29th. File this one under agony. The band shared a lengthy statement explaining the situation via Facebook: “We regret to inform you all that, due to reasons entirely beyond our control, we’re forced to cancel our participation in the upcoming US Tour with Mayhem and Midnight, for which ...

Phoebe Bridgers Covers Billie Eilish’s “When the Party’s Over”: Stream

Phoebe Bridgers has offered up her take on Billie Eilish‘s hit single “When the Party’s Over.” Stream the track below. Our 2020 Artist of the Year premiered the cover during the inaugural episode of her new SiriusXM radio show, Saddest Factory Radio, which aired on Thursday. “Don’t you know I’m no good for you?/ I’ve learned to lose you, can’t afford to/ Tore my shirt to stop you bleeding/ But nothing ever stops you leaving,” Bridgers croons over sparse piano, keeping her interpretation faithful to the original’s moody, atmospheric production. Eilish first released “When the Party’s Over” back in October 2018 as the second single off her smash 2019 debut album, WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO?. At the time, Bridgers was busy teaming up with Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus as Boygenius,...

Pusha T Shares How Pharrell’s Devastating Feedback Changed the Course of His Next Album

Pusha T took to Instagram to debut his newest “Hear Me Clearly” track with Nigo. When posting the announcement to social media, King Push took the chance to share a small anecdote about his upcoming record and how another Pharrell collaboration came about. Accompanying the post he wrote, “Fun Fact: @pharrell heard this song and told me ‘it’s cool, but I don’t want you to be a mixtape rapper for the rest of your life.’ I was devastated. He then flew me to Miami and proceeded to produce the first half of the best album of the year. Moral of the story…always ‘push’ your friends to be greater, even when they’re the greatest.” While Pharrell was apparently not completely on board with his new song, the Grammy-winning producer later hopped on Push’s next album, resulting in the current success g...

New York Pop Collective Michelle Muses Over Meals And In Google Docs

“Michelle loves some Guy Fieri.” This is one of the first things said on a Zoom call with the six members of Michelle, a New York City-based pop group. To clarify, no one in the band is actually named Michelle (and they style their group name, album titles, and songs in all caps). But as Sofia D’Angelo, a vocalist and songwriter, points out, their collective affinity for the Mayor of Flavortown is one element that unites them. “One of my favorite pieces of food journalism is the review of his restaurant that’s just, like, a series of questions,” she admits, sitting in front of a large digital backdrop of Fieri himself clad in a flame shirt. “Have you read that?” The resonance goes deeper than obvious meme status and the general Fierification of the internet. All six members — vocalis...

Madi Diaz Teams Up with Angel Olsen for “Forever (New Feelings Version),” Drops New EP: Stream

Madi Diaz has a new song with Angel Olsen out called “Forever (New Feelings Version).” A reimagining of her 2021 track “Forever,” the duet appears on Diaz’ new EP Same History, New Feelings, which you can listen to below. Where the original “Forever” centered on a melancholy, Cat Power-style acoustic guitar, “Forever (New Feelings Version)” favors an equally somber piano. Angel Olsen opens the song with her warm warble before Diaz comes in for a duet. “You so casually say it’s forever/ You’re saying it like it’s whatever,” the two belt, looking back on a relationship that didn’t exactly go the distance. “Forever (New Feelings Version)” is one of four star-studded duets Diaz offers on Same History, New Feelings, which sees the artist re-record songs from her 2021 LP History o...

Rivers Cuomo Goes Country (I Guess) on Morgan Evans Duet “Country Outta My Girl”: Stream

Weezer’s got an entire genre-hopping covers album that insists Rivers Cuomo is open to anything, so we probably shouldn’t be surprised that he’s now featured on a country song. The frontman has teamed up with Morgan Evans for the track “Country Outta My Girl,” which you can listen to below. “Country Outta My Girl” has all the trappings of a modern pop-country song: twangy guitar and skittering electronic drums that mix like oil and water, a near-rap style vocal delivery, and incredibly on-the-nose lyrics that insist its artists are familiar with Southern culture. Over a scratchy acoustic riff, Evans details the ways that his Southern transplant girlfriend has maintained her country roots, from wearing cowboy boots on Rodeo Drive to drinking dirty martinis in mason jars. After Evans promise...

Snoop Dogg Shares He Owns the Masters to Dr. Dre’s ‘The Chronic’

Snoop Dogg is now the owner of the masters of Dr. Dre’s first studio album, The Chronic. Last month, it was announced that Snoop Dogg had acquired Death Row Records after purchasing it from MNRK Music Group. In a recent interview with Elliott Wilson for TIDAL, the rapper shared that as part of the deal, he owns the masters for Dre’s The Chronic, as well as a few of his own projects, including Doggystyle, Tha Doggfather, Murder Was the Case, Dogg Food and Above the Rim. Snoop Dogg went on to clarify that he’s not the owner of any of the masters for Tupac Shakur’s releases. “As far as Tupac’s masters, Tupac’s masters came back to him last year,” he said. “But I got a great relationship with his estate, and I’m pretty sure we’re going to be able to work something out … to continue some Death ...

Machine Gun Kelly Taps Lil Wayne for New Track and Video “ay!”

Machine Gun Kelly has employed Lil Wayne for his latest track and music video, titled “ay!,” off his forthcoming album, Mainstream Sellout. The visual, which MGK says he filmed “last night in [his] living room,” sees the chart-topper changing between a multitude of flashy outfits while seated at a table in a colorful closet among a group of friends. While Wayne does not physically appear in the video, a paper cut-out of the top-shelf rapper moves across the table throughout his guest verse. The track, produced by frequent collaborator Travis Barker, BazeXX and SlimXX, marks the second offering to arrive ahead of Mainstream Sellout‘s debut, following “Emo Girl,” featuring Willow, which was released early last month. While teasing “ay!” on Twitter earlier this week, the Blonde Don hinted at ...

Bop Shop: Songs From Avril Lavigne And Machine Gun Kelly, Haim, And More

On his previous music release/comedy special, 2020’s The Golden One, performer Whitmer Thomas announced his arrival boldly: “It fucking hurts to be alive!” His upcoming follow-up EP, Can’t Believe You’re Happy Here, due out March 25, takes a more muted delivery with an even funnier takeaway; Thomas plucks an acoustic guitar and longs to be “a Trevor” in a sea of them, listening to Joe Rogan, microdosing, gaming, vaping, and watching Fight Club. The EP was produced with Melina Duterte from Jay Som, which makes it essential listening by default. —Patrick Hosken You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. From Stem Players to NFTs, Artists Are Getting Creative With New Music Releases

Technological advancements have opened up new ways for artists to connect with their fans through music releases. Last week, Kanye West unveiled his highly-anticipated Donda 2, forgoing a traditional drop on streaming services and opting instead to release the studio album exclusively through his Stem Player hardware device. Though the rapper was reportedly offered $100 million USD to make the album an Apple Music exclusive, the 16-track LP is only available on the hockey puck-shaped device, developed by his brand Yeezy Tech and shipped out with the original Donda album pre-downloaded. Despite its $200 USD price tag, the rapper’s community has seemingly embraced the quirky new device. In the first 24 hours following the debut of Donda 2, over 8,000 Stem Players had been sold, according to ...
