Madonna’s latest endeavor includes directing a biopic about her own music career. But before the Queen of Pop gets her story to the silver screen, she has to find its star. Among the actresses who have auditioned for the role? Euphoria breakouts Sydney Sweeney and Barbie Ferreira — as well as Ozark’s Julia Garner. Jeff Sneider of The Ankler reports that Madonna’s biopic is one of the most coveted roles for young actresses in recent memory. Madge herself reportedly had her sights set on Florence Pugh, but considering how many other actresses have been through the auditioning process since then, we’re inclined to believe the Midsommar star might be “hung up” on other projects. Of course, to play a pop star as subversive as Madonna in her early career requires a bit of an edge....

By Alissa Godwin The record-breaking HBO series Euphoria has kept fans talking for the entirety of Season 2’s eight-week run, which concluded with a shocking finale last night (February 27). It was so hyped, in fact, that HBO Max experienced streaming issues right around 9 p.m. presumably due to the sheer number of viewers tuning in. Aside from its critically acclaimed performances, the starpower of its actors, and gripping storylines, one element in particular has captivated audiences: the music. For that, fans can largely thank award-winning singer-songwriter and producer Labrinth, the show’s composer. “I knew it was a teen drama, but I knew it was gnarly,” he tells MTV News about signing onto the show ahead of its 2019 premiere. “I knew it was definitely on the darker side of things. Bu...
Wet Leg are back with another new single ahead of their forthcoming self-titled debut album. Listen to the zany track “Angelica” below. An ode to lead vocalist Rhian Teasdale’s oldest friend, “Angelica” zips around with the irreverent energy we’ve come to expect from Britain’s buzziest band. A disjointed, Wire-like guitar riff zig-zags in the verses, while Teasdale sings of her friend’s thoroughly unimpressed reaction to a party. In the chorus, a wall of distortion blurs out the song’s initial angular melody. “It’s laced with disenchantment,” Teasdale said of the song in a statement. “Even though the chorus is ‘good times, all the time.’ That’s just impossible, isn’t it?” Advertisement Related Video In the accompanying music video, directed by the duo themselves, Teasdale and guitari...

The project is set to arrive in 2023 and will explore Brown’s legacy through never-before-seen archival footage and interviews with friends, family, and collaborators. Jagger said he was “thrilled” to produce the documentary in a statement, calling Brown “a brilliant performer who inspired me from the beginning and was deeply committed to the Civil Rights movement. I have always admired James and learned so much from him.” Advertisement Related Video “The life of James Brown is significant not only t...
Hey, not everyone pops out of the womb a star. Grace Franklin, the 15-year-old granddaughter of Aretha Franklin, appeared on American Idol on Sunday (February 27th), but didn’t quite have the same chops as her mythological elder to allow her to advance to the singing program. “I feel like people expect me to sing exactly like her, but I am my own artist and I have my own voice,” the young Franklin said in a pre-recorded clip prior to her audition. Unfortunately, judges Lionel Ritchie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan weren’t exactly impressed with the voice she offered. Franklin opened her audition with a Lauryn Hill-inspired cover of Roberta Flack’s “Killing Me Softly,” but the performance proved more one-dimensional than the soulful original. “It was all just a little sleepy and subdued to me,...
Selena Gomez is the loose, quirky presence on her Hulu detective comedy Only Murders in the Building. So it makes perfect sense that she’d bring a bit of Mabel Mora on Sunday night (Feb. 27) when she presented an award alongside her cast mate Martin Short at the 2022 Screen Actors Guild Awards. The 29-year-old star took the stage barefoot to hand out the outstanding female actress in a supporting role trophy to West Side Story‘s Ariana DeBose. Explore See latest videos, charts and news The shoeless shuffle came after Gomez had a bit of a slip-up earlier in the evening on the red carpet when she strutted out to pose and one of her Christian Louboutin pumps gave way and she fell into a handler’s arms before getting pulled back up to her feet. Seemingly not wanting a repeat, Gomez ditched the...
