Blues veteran Lady A and country superstars Lady A (formerly Lady Antebellum) have agreed to settle a lawsuit over their shared name. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, they filed joint requests for dismissal on Monday. Details have not been made public, and it’s unclear if money changed hands or whether both parties will call themselves Lady A going forward. Lady Antebellum drastically shortened their name in 2020 following protests over George Floyd’s murder by a Minneapolis cop. At the time, they wrote of antebellum, “We are regretful and embarrassed to say that we did not take into account the associations that weigh down this word referring to the period of history before The Civil War, which includes slavery. We are deeply sorry for the hurt this has caused.” However, they al...

Machine Gun Kelly has changed the name of his upcoming album to Mainstream Sellout. Kelly revealed the new name on Instagram in a video in which he humorously tells Barker about the change. “We’re friends no matter what, right?” Kelly asks Barker, to which the drummer responds positively. “Remember when we got the new album name tattooed on our arms?” Kelly continues as the video plays footage from the event. “We’re changing the album name,” he adds laughing. One of 2021’s breakout stars, Arlo Parks has returned with “Softly,” her first song of 2022. “‘Softly’ is a song about yearning, about how fragile you feel in the dying days of a relationship when you’re still desperately in love,” Arlo Parks said of the track in a statement. “The song is about how it feels to brace yourself before the blow of a break up and reminisce about the days where it all felt luminous.” “Softly” starts out (you guessed it) softly, as Arlo Parks begs a soon-to-be ex to let her down easy while piano twinkles over a quick-moving beat. Once the chorus rolls around, however, the singer-songwriter reaches a volume we haven’t seen from her before. “Break it to me softly/ I don’t want no one else,” she repeats, banging out low chords. In the accompanying music video, Arlo ...
Mitski had made up her mind after finishing her “Be The Cowboy” tour in late 2019: after months of frequent shows, press, and supporting her biggest album to date, she was quitting music for good. “I felt it was shaving away my soul little by little,” said Mitski in a recent profile, describing the anxiety, pressure, and existential dread she was experiencing as simply too much to bear. Of course, endings aren’t always that simple. She began working on Be The Cowboy’s follow-up quickly after, but only because she was contractually obligated to do so; yet, after over two years of writing and recording in the midst of a global pandemic, Mitski arrives this week (February 4th) with her sixth studio album, Laurel Hell. And by all measures, Laurel Hell is yet another phenomenal entry in Mitski’...

Glenn Wheatley, the former musician who earned a place in the ARIA Hall of Fame with The Masters Apprentices before pivoting into artist management, whereupon he guided some of Australia’s most successful recording artists, including John Farnham, Little River Band and Delta Goodrem, has died at the age of 74. The music man was reportedly hospitalized with COVID-19 prior to his death Tuesday (Feb. 1) in Melbourne. Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news It was Wheatley who put all his chips on Farnham in the mid-‘80s, when the singer’s own chips were down. Wheatley engineered one of music’s great comebacks by connecting Farnham with “You’re The Voice,” a protest song written by Chris Thompson, Andy Qunta, Maggie Ryder and Keith Reid. He presented it to...
