Earlier this week, Gunna dropped his highly-anticipated third studio album DS4EVER. While the mixtape featured a lengthy 19 song tracklist featuring the likes of Lil Baby, Roddy Ricch, Kodak Black and 21 Savage, fans were quick to point out that Toronto rapper, Drake was nowhere to be seen on the album. In an album tracklist shared prior to the album drop, Drizzy was set to be featured on the artist’s track titled “Pussy Power.” However, it appears to have since been moved. This is not the first time Drake has been removed from a tracklist. Last November, Drake’s feature was confirmed to be on French Montana’s track “Splash Brothers,” which was later cut from the new album They Got Amnesia. It is speculated that the decision was made due to the recent Astroworld incident that involved Trav...
After 17 years of declining numbers, CD sales reached a nearly two-decade high in 2021, and the biggest reason was Adele. The superstar’s long-awaited fourth album, 30, was far and away the top-selling album of the year in every format, a feat she managed to achieve within just 72 hours of the smash LP’s release. In CD sales alone, it moved a total of 898,000 units — a massive amount for a release in the post-streaming age of music consumption. According to Billboard, that accounts for two percent of all sales in the format, and “had 30 not been released in 2021, total CD sales would have been down year-over-year.” Advertisement Related Video With Adele’s help, 2021 marked the very first time since 2004 that CD sales rose. For reference, that was the year when Usher’s Confessions...
Rising British rock band Yard Act have unveiled their cheeky new single “Rich” and its accompanying music video. Watch it below. In the clip, frontman James Smith plays a reporter named J. Konopinski, who roves around a British suburb interviewing citizens who’ve won a lottery of a 50-pence coin. “Almost by accident, I have become rich/ Through continued reward for skilled labor in the private sector/ And a genuine lack of interest in expensive things/ It appears I have become rich/ And since I have become rich, I’ve been constantly living in fear of losing everything/ That the bubble will burst/ And falling from my perch, I will return once again/ To the life I used to live with the things that I didn’t have/ Before I had become rich” he intones over the foursome’s trademark minimalist gu...
Song of the Week breaks down and talks about the song we just can’t get out of our head each week. Find these songs and more on our Spotify Top Songs playlist. For our favorite new songs from emerging artists, check out our Spotify New Sounds playlist. This week, a new single from The Weeknd provides the perfect Friday soundtrack. The Weeknd went high-concept with Dawn FM, the new album that arrived today, January 7th — and it worked. The radio station storyline is tinged with an air of sadness, and the commitment to the bit feels perfectly paired with the artist’s penchant for ’80s sounds. “Sacrifice,” the artist’s next single, is more of the irresistible fare for which The Weeknd has become known. He knows how to keep things interesting, pulling off homages that don’t feel outdated,...
North London’s Mae Muller started writing songs by trying to emulate her heroes. First up, when she was much younger, was Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine . “I was obsessed,” she tells MTV. “I tried to write like her. I think I was 19 when I put my first song on SoundCloud.” But unlike Flo and other artists whose identities and artistic visions are clearly defined from the start, Muller began her own journey with plenty of questions. “I was like, I don’t really know who the hell I am. I really don’t. And I think just writing really made me find that.” Muller, the MTV Push artist for January 2022, knows who she is now — or at least, she knows who she’s keen to be for the moment before she evolves. As she spoke to MTV about ...
Our new music feature Rap Song of the Week breaks down the essential hip-hop tracks you need to hear every Friday. Check out the full playlist here. This week, Gunna teams up with Future and Young Thug on his DS4EVER standout “pushin P.” Before Gunna was considered a contemporary of Young Thug and Future, he gave his career a soft reset by dropping the Yung from his name and launching his signature Drip Season mixtape series. Five years later, he’s become a bonafide superstar who literally taught Lil Baby how to rap, so closing out the franchise with DS4EVER has particular significance. As one would expect, Thugger and Future each make multiple appearances on the project, but “pushing P” is a reminder of why we’re still hoping the sequel to Super Slimey is still happening. A...
Bob Dylan’s legal team has formally responded to allegations made by an anonymous woman that he sexually assaulted her when she was 12 years old, calling her lawsuit a “brazen shakedown.” As multiple outlets have reported, his lawyers have also sought to discredit the woman by bringing attention to her work as a psychic. The plaintiff is a now-68-year-old woman identified in court documents as J.C. She initially claimed that in April and May of 1965, Dylan tried to “lower her inhibitions with the object of sexually abusing her, which he did, coupled with the provision of drugs, alcohol and threats of physical violence, leaving her emotionally scarred and psychologically damaged to this day.” However, Dylan was on tour during that period, and J.C.’s timeline of events didn’t match...

The track finds the country star looking back on her journey from struggling, undiscovered songwriter to one of Nashville’s brightest voices and even references her big break with 2016’s “My Church” and “80s “Mercedes.” “Couple hundred songs and the ones that finally worked/ Was the one about a car and the one about a church,” she croons on the effervescent chorus. “That I wrote/ Driving circles around this town/ Trying to write circles around this town/ Trying to say something with meaning, something worth singing about.” Advertisement Related Video “Circles Around This Town” serves as the lead single for Morris’ upcoming third studio album, following her...
Jack White has shared a live video for his new single “Taking Me Back,” which doubles a preview of his upcoming world tour. “People keep asking who’s going to be in the band, what’s the band going to be like for the tour dates… We thought it would be good to let people see who it is is,” White explained in an interview with Alt 98.7, “and as rehearsals start for the tour, to film and record something to see how it’s sounding — I thought let’s do all that at once.” Joining White in the self-directed video are bassist Dominic Davis, keyboardist Quincy McCrary, and drummer Daru Jones. These same three musicians will be by White’s side when he embarks on his lengthy “Supply Chain Issues Tour” in April (get tickets here).
