The Marías bilingual debut, CINEMA, received a Grammy nomination last month for best engineered album, non-classical — a rarity for an album that features Spanish lyrics. The nomination in that category goes to the engineers and mastering engineers, not to the recording artist. However, Josh Conway, one of the L.A.-based indie pop quartet’s members, is credited as one of the engineers on the album. So, Conway is nominated, along with fellow engineers Marvin Figueroa, Josh Gudwin, Neal H. Pogue and Ethan Shumaker and mastering engineer Joe LaPorta. For Coldplay, the end of the line is in sight. Maybe. In a new interview for the BBC, Chris Martin has indicated Coldplay will hang up their guitars in 2025, a year that would mark a quarter century since their first album release, 2000’s Parachutes. The revelation comes in an interview Martin gave with Jo Whiley for BBC Radio 2, a snippet of which aired on the Zoe Ball Breakfast Show. “Well I know I can tell you: our last proper record will come out in 2025 and after that I think we will only tour,” Martin says in a preview clip. “Maybe we’ll do some collaborative things but the Coldplay catalog as it were finishes then.” Explore Explore Coldplay See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news There are several takeaways from Martin’s comments. At the turn of the year 2021, no one expected that the “Rookie of the Year” on the year-end Billboard K-Pop 100 would go to a male solo artist. Major entertainment companies had introduced brand-new bands such as aespa, ENHYPEN, Treasure and STAYC at the end of 2020 and most of us had our attention on them. To our surprise, a young male singer showed that he was not an ordinary rookie singer by setting the record for most No. 1 appearances on the Billboard K-Pop 100 in 2021. This up-and-coming star singer is Lee Mujin, who was the runner-up in Sing Again, JTBC’s music competition show. LCD Soundsystem have made a career out of iconic lines, from, “Daft Punk is playing at my house,” to “I’m losing my edge,” but nothing they’ve written has been quite as prescient as, “[U]s playing the show is no way an indicator that it’s safe to attend.” The band posted those words in a December 17th statement explaining why they wouldn’t be cancelling their residency at Brooklyn Steel, despite private misgivings and a COVID-19 surge in New York City. Two days later, they finally pulled the plug, bowing to outside pressure as well as a growing unease within the band. Before that happened, scores of concert-goers may have been infected with the novel coronavirus. Consequence has spoken to over a dozen people who attended the residency, all of whom say they have had at least the first ...
As the neighbor of Bob Dylan, author and journalist Merrill Markoe has become a celebrity reporter of sorts. For over a decade, she’s documented and analyzed the folk singer’s Christmas lights outside his Malibu home, and this year’s interpretation — Markoe’s last ever — has finally arrived. From half-assed string lights to basic plaster nativity scenes, Dylan’s decorations have prompted Markoe to ask one simple question: “What does it mean?” But the task has proven gruesome as the years have gone by. “Because people keep bugging me, here are you-know-who’s Xmas lights. For THE VERY LAST TIME,” Markoe wrote on Twitter. “But I can no longer take the strain of trying to translate such an obscure method of communication. See thread for my LAST interpretation EVER.” This year, Dylan resorted t...
Even after COVID forced LCD Soundsystem to cancel the remaining three shows of their 20-night Brooklyn Steel residency, the band hasn’t given up on trying to keep things jolly. On December 22nd, James Murphy and co. brought the holiday cheer to Amazon Prime Video with their part comedy, part concert film Christmas special, appropriately titled The LCD Soundsystem Holiday Special. Directed by Eric Wareheim (of Tim & Eric fame), the hour-long special aims to capture nostalgia twofold. It opens with a parody of a ’90s sitcom titled “All My Friends,” in which Wareheim stands in as Murphy in a fictionalized version of LCD Soundsystem. With Macaulay Culkin portraying drummer Pat Mahoney, the band fumbles through assembling the perfect setlist for the night’s gig. Spanning their 2005 de...
Gucci Mane has dropped a visual for “Long Live Dolph,” just a few days after its audio release. The song, which is the closing track to Mane’s compilation mixtape So Icy Christmas, pays tribute to his late friend Young Dolph who was fatally shot outside of a local bakery in his hometown of Memphis last month. The music video, which is helmed by Omar the Director is a nostalgic look at Gucci and Dolph’s friendship. The video showcases never-before-seen photos of the two rappers as well as footage from the Memphis artist’s memorial service. The sentimental to the track highlight the legacy Young Dolph has left behind. Gucci mourns the loss of his dear friend, “R.I.P. to Dolph, long, long live the legend/From Memphis to the 6, they felt you in the bricks/The day you died, it broke my heart, a...
Chris Martin has confirmed that Coldplay will likely put out their final album in 2025. Formed in London back in 1996, Coldplay has taken the world by storm with big hits including “Yellow,” “Fix You,” and “Paradise.” Since then, the band has put out nine albums with their most recent being Music of the Spheres in October. Their collaboration with Korean supergroup BTS “My Universe,” earned the group their second Billboard No. 1 hit. iNews reported that Martin announced in a conversation with BBC Radio 2 presenter Jo Whiley the band’s future plans, “Well I know I can tell you: Our last proper record will come out in 2025 and after that I think we will only tour.” He continued, “Maybe we’ll do some collaborative things but the Coldplay catalog as it were, finishes then.” The entirety of the...
New details regarding Pusha T‘s involvement in Kanye West‘s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album have surfaced. According to Steven Victor, during the Hawaii recording sessions for the album, Pusha T grew to be incredibly frustrated with Kanye West’s creative process. In a recent interview with Idea Generation Victor revealed that Push spent two weeks on the island with Ye but nearly bailed on the sessions. When Ye’s process proved to be a waste of Push’s time, Push left Hawaii with the intention of completely dropping out of the album. Victor explained the situation, “There’d be periods where we would be in Hawaii for like two or three weeks and no work would be getting done. So for someone like Pusha, it’s like, ‘What is this? This doesn’t make sense.’” He added, “We were supposed to ...
