Spotify has bought Whooshkaa, an Australian podcasting platform that helps creators to host, distribute and monetize podcasts. Spotify may already be the world’s most popular audio streaming service, but recently, the company has been making moves to expand beyond music streaming and venture further into podcast-style content. In November, Spotify acquired Megaphone, a leading podcast advertising and publishing platform. Currently, nearly one in five Spotify advertisers participate in the podcasting marketplace, the company said in its announcement. Using Whooshkaa, Spotify says that broadcasters will have a simple way to turn their existing audio content into podcast content. The company plans to integrate Whooshkaa into Megaphone to provide publishers worldwide with new technology t...

After the former president presented his playlist, the 22-year-old artist shared Obama’s tweet...

“I was just coming out of my depression, so that was fun,” country singer-songwriter Abby Anderson tells Billboard of writing her latest single, “Bad Posture,” which released in October. “My hair was black. I was going through it, man.” It was a different image than country music fans had come to know of Anderson—a gregarious, charming singer-songwriter. Since her debut in 2018, Anderson released the ballad “Make Him Wait,” and collaborated with Jimmie Allen on a cover of the A Star Is Born hit “Shallow,” with their collaboration reaching No. 21 on Billboard‘s Country Digital Song Sales chart in 2019. That same year, she opened shows for Rob Thomas on his Chip Tooth Tour. Explore See latest videos, charts and news But in March 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic forced artists away from the road. ...
Look what you made her do. On Thursday, Kim Kardashian opened up in a new interview about her feelings toward Taylor Swift’s music, and it appears she’s a Swiftie just like the rest of us. “I mean, I really like a lot of her songs,” she said on the podcast Honestly with Bari Weiss. “They’re all super cute and catchy. I’d have to look in my phone to get a name.” Of course, this is a major change of tune for the reality star, considering her long and tangled history with Swift amid the star’s well-documented feud with Kanye West… err, Ye. Advertisement Related Video Though Kim wasn’t yet married to the rapper when he infamously crashed the “All Too Well” singer’s acceptance speech at the 2009 MTV VMAs, she got involved in the pair’s drama over Ye’s single “Famous” several years later by leak...
About one out of every five people who held tickets for concerts in 2021 stayed home. In most years, the very biggest touring acts and venues expect less than 4% of ticket buyers to no-show, while an average Live Nation concert saw about 12% of people stay home in 2019. But according to a Wall Street Journal report, that rate rose across the board in COVID-struck 2021, with between 17% and 20% of ticket purchasers never scanning their tickets. Some of the hardest-hits acts this year have been legacy artists with aging fanbases, including The Eagles, George Strait, Billy Joel, The Flaming Lips, and Dead & Company, who have all reported no-show rates of 20%. While a no-show is much better than a never-purchased, venues are especially anxious about the loss of older, wealthier p...

Continuing with his tradition of making annual end-of-the-year lists, Barack Obama has shared his top songs of 2021. This year’s list spans 27 songs and per usual, dabbles in a variety of genres. “I’ve always enjoyed listening to a wide variety of music, so it’s no surprise that I listened to a little bit of everything this year,” Obama said on Twitter. “I hope you find a new artist or song to add to your own playlist.” The selection names some of pop hits of the year, including “MONTERO” by Lil Nas X and “Rumors” by Cardi B and Lizzo. Obama has also been enjoying the bachata and reggaeton-blending track “Volvi” by Bad Bunny and Aventura, as well as Isaiah Rashad’s “Headshots 4r Da Locals” and Nas and Lauryn Hill’s “Nobody.” Other artists in rotation include Little Simz, Parquet Courts, Mi...
One of the producers of Kanye West’s “Yikes,” Pi’erre Bourne, has said that Drake originally recorded verses for the song. In an interview with HipHopDx, Bourne discussed the two rappers’ recent reconciliation at the Larry Hoover Benefit Concert, saying that he was “so happy that they’re performing together.” “Those are my big brothers, so to see them together,” Bourne continued. “I never would’ve thought. But it’s amazing to see, makes me feel way better about everything. ‘Cause I’ve been in the middle!” Bourne went on to reveal that there was a chance that Drake would appear alongside West on the single “Yikes” off of 2018’s ye. “And honestly, not too many people know that Drake wrote that,” Bourne said to the publication. “He sung the hook. When I was there, they were on the s...
