It took The Antlers seven years to release this year’s Green to Gold, but now the duo is back with their second release in nine months. Today Peter Silberman and Michael Lerner surprise released Losing Light, an EP that reimagines four songs from their last record. They’ve also kept the ball rolling with word of their first tour since 2019. Losing Light trades The Antlers’ typical indie rock sound for an electronic edge. In a statement for the EP, frontman Silberman described the project as an exercise in imagining the future of music and technology. “How would these songs sound if they were being reconstituted from memory fifty years from now, after decades of technological evolution, alongside analog and digital degradation?” the artist asked. “I began to consider how...
Your Old Droog has announced a new album, Space Bar. It’s out November 29th, and as a preview YOD has uncorked the song “Meteor Man” featuring Lil Ugly Mane and billy woods. Space Bar will be Droog’s fourth (!) album of 2021, following TIME and his two collaborations with Tha God Fahim, Tha Wolf on Wall St and Tha YOD Fahim. As for “Meteor Man,” the song boasts a beat by Sadhu Gold. It opens with two thumps of a drum and an incessant whine that turns into a wall of sound, as the three MCs unspool an all-bars, no hook slugfest. Droog establishes the tone with his conversational flow, setting himself up, “Like Mace Windu priming for the great swindle/ Don’t act surprised when you see me poly with Kylie and Kendall.” Lil Ugly Mane raps, “If cops throw they l...

Ever since “My Generation,” Roger Daltrey of The Who hasn’t been shy about sharing strong opinions on his peers. In a new interview with the Coda Collection, Daltrey praised Mick Jagger but referred to The Rolling Stones as a “mediocre pub band.” Daltrey was asked about Paul McCartney’s recent comments suggesting that The Stones were nothing but a “blues cover band,” and in response he let out a great big belly laugh. “The Stones have written some great songs but they are in the blues. They are in that format.” He added, “You cannot take away the fact that Mick Jagger is still the number one rock and roll showman up front. The only other people I’d put up against him would be perhaps James Brown, maybe Jerry Lee [Lewis] in his day, and Little Richard. But Mick Jagger, you’ve...
Courtney Barnett stopped by The Ellen Degeneres Show on Monday (November 15th) to promote her masterful new album, Things Take Time, Take Time. During her performance, the Australian singer-songwriter played the album cut, “Write a List of Things to Look Forward To.” While joined on stage by Things Take Time co-producer Stella Mozgawa on drums, Cate Le Bon on bass, and Zach Dawes on keys, Barnett delivered an excellent rendition of the track, which covers themes of gratitude and the progression of life toward death. “A baby is born/ As a man lay dying,” she sings on the second verse. “As a man lay dying/ And so on it goes.” Watch Courtney Barnett’s Ellen performance of “Write a List of Things to Look Forward To” below. Earlier this month, Post Malone and The Weeknd shared the new single “One Right Now,” which is ostensibly about sleeping with tons of women, but in which they both sing “you,” as if singing to each other. Now they’ve shared a “One Right Now” music video where they are hellbent on killing each other, seemingly confirming the fact that, in the world of the song, the pop pair were recently fucking. “You say you love me, but I don’t care,” they take turns crooning, “That I broke my hand on the same wall that you told me that he fucked you on.” This dual treachery has left both men filled with rage, and in the “One Right Now” video this lover’s quarrel turns violent. They face off, big cocked guns in hand, spurting bullets all over their enemies and squirming as they get pumped f...
The second edition of Goldenvoice’s hotly-anticipated Day N Vegas Festival brought a range of performances from hip-hop and R&B acts to the Las Vegas Festival Grounds for three nights over the November 12th-14th weekend. On the heels of the November 5th crowd surge and mass-casualty event at Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival, the hours leading into Day N Vegas took a cautionary tone. Earlier in the week, Scott pulled out of his night two headlining slot at DNV and was replaced by Post Malone; news outlets clamored to inform the public of the festival’s safety plan and organizers made additional checks and balances on crowd control. While the emphasis on fan safety struck a hyper-vigilant chord, the event was incident free and high on big moments, wrapping up a short but sweet ’21 fest...
