On Take Care, Drake Flickered Between Hurt And Hubris

By Dani Blum Drake couldn’t control the biggest moment in his career. He was anxious and antsy when his sophomore album, Take Care, leaked online in November 2011, all the passion and purpose he’d channeled into making the record suddenly available to anyone willing to download it. He told GQ at the time that he named the collection after his intense devotion to the process of making it. “I knew I was going to go home and take longer than six months, I knew that I was literally going to take care of making this project and be attentive, be clear, be immersed in it,” he said. And then the album sprang online, days before the 25-year-old rapper planned to release it. Take Care would become his defining work, the record that honed his sound and crystalized the emotional core of Drake’s music....

Taylor Swift Crashes a Wedding in Video for “I Bet You Think About Me (Taylor’s Version): Watch

“I Bet You Think About Me (Taylor’s Version)” is one of nine new songs taken “From the Vault” and added to Taylor Swift’s recently refreshed album Red (Taylor’s Version). The country-pop kiss-off features vocals from Chris Stapleton, and it now has a new music video directed by Blake Lively and co-written by Lively and Swift. Check it out below. The visuals open with a groom reciting his vows, though it turns out to be a rehearsal in the bathroom mirror, and his groomsmen are all wiggling in front of urinals. At the black and white reception, Swift appears as an apparition in red, dropping cherries into drinks and toppling the groom from the top of the wedding cake. At one point, she returns in a flowing white wedding gown, tempting her ex away from his bride. But this ...

Adele’s One Night Only Concert Indicates a Great Heartbreak Album Is on the Horizon: Recap

Oh, Adele, how we’ve missed you. On Sunday, November 14th, the record-breaking singer-songwriter made a return to live performance with Adele: One Night Only on CBS, which featured some of the artist’s greatest hits, a vulnerable interview with Oprah, and a peek at that highly-anticipated new music head of this Friday (November 19th), when 30 will arrive in full. The event was gorgeously staged and shot at the Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles. Adele gifted the (extremely star-studded) audience with her signature vocals, strong as ever, against a surreal sunset in the Hollywood Hills. Advertisement From the first notes of “Hello,” it became very clear: Adele is not here to play. This album, which we’ve waited six or so years for, is going to be a doozy. Adele is so effortlessly charming,...

Brass Against are dealing with the fallout from an onstage incident in which singer Sophia Urista urinated on a fan’s face at the Welcome to Rockville festival in Daytona Beach, Florida. Among the new developments is a police report that was filed concerning the episode. As previously reported, during Brass Against’s Thursday set at the rock fest, Urista singled out a male fan in the crowd with a camera mounted to his head. She called him up onto the stage while the band was covering Rage Against the Machine’s “Wake Up.” She then told him to lie down on the stage, at which point she pulled down her pants and urinated on his face. The man, seemingly thrilled by the act, then proceeded to stand up and spit the liquid into the audience. Needless to say, the incident made national headlines. A...

Nine-year-old Ezra Blount passed away Sunday, according to a statement released by his family’s attorney. “The Blount family tonight is grieving the incomprehensible loss of their precious young son,” the Blount family attorney Ben Crump said in a statement. “This should not have been the outcome of taking their son to a concert, what should have been a joyful celebration. Ezra’s death is absolutely heartbreaking. We are committed to seeking answers and justice for the Blount family. But tonight we stand in solidarity with the family, in grief, and in prayer.” Blount was sitting on his father’s shoulders during Travis Scott’s headlining set on Friday night when the two suddenly found themselves trapped in...

Damon Albarn Brings “Darkness to Light” on Fallon: Watch

Damon Albarn celebrated this week’s release of his new album, The Nearer the Fountain, More Pure the Stream Flows, by stopping by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday night (November 12th). As the evening’s musical guest, the musician delivered a stunning rendition of his song “Darkness to Light.” While most of us are more used to Albarn rocking out as the frontman of Blur or taking on an animated persona with Gorillaz, his solo work positions him as a soft-rock crooner. With a full backing band, Albarn was able to stick to vocals alone; with a black-and-white filter placed over the footage, it makes for one arresting performance. (Notably, his mullet is still in full force.) Watch him sing “Darkness to Light” on Fallon below. Albarn first conceptualized The Nearer th...
