Eminem Works Takeout Window at Mom’s Spaghetti’s Grand Opening

Eminem’s Mom’s Spaghetti restaurant opened in Detroit on Wednesday, and a familiar face manned the takeout window: Slim Shady himself. With a sweater clean of vomit, the rapper worked the walk-up window at the alley-set eatery when it first began serving customers on September 29th. As Complex reports, Em served the first 10 customers their takeout containers of spaghetti and meatballs (with a vegan option available!), snapping pictures with fans at the counter. According to the Detroit Free Press, the line for the opening day celebration stretched for blocks around Detroit’s Foxtown neighborhood. Some were camping out since the early morning awaiting the 5:00 p.m. opening. While they waited, they were treated to a rendition of “Lose Yourself” (the lyrics of which inspired the restaur...

Beyond the Boys’ Club: Emily Armstrong of Dead Sara

Beyond the Boys’ Club is a monthly column from journalist and radio host Anne Erickson, focusing on women in the heavy music genres, as they offer their perspectives on the music industry and discuss their personal experiences. Erickson is also a music artist herself, recently releasing the song “Eternal Way” with Upon Wings. This month’s piece features an interview with Emily Armstrong of Dead Sara. Los Angeles rockers Dead Sara spent much of the lockdown period working on their Warner Records debut (and third album overall), the just-released Ain’t It Tragic. With recording sessions set to take place smack dab in the middle of the pandemic, the new album brought some challenges for the band, but it was nothing they couldn’t face head-on, as demonstrated in their triumphant new single, “H...

The Weather Station Unveil Ignorance (Deluxe): Stream

Earlier this year, Tamara Lindeman staked her claim in indie rock with Ignorance, her latest album as The Weather Station. Still reeling in its success, the folk musician has released a deluxe edition of the already-beloved record today via Fat Possum; physical copies will be available on November 19th. Ignorance (Deluxe) comes in a double-LP format that features the original tracklist, some stripped-down performances, and two brand-new tracks called “Look” and “Better Now.” “I wrote ‘Better Now’ in Banff, Alberta, in stolen moments as I was teaching songwriting and writing for myself,” Lindeman said in a statement. “It’s all just true; the mountains, the piano, the first line, the pain of being hurt and the joy of being alright anyways.” Furthermore, Lindeman writes: “Whene...

Judge Suspends Jamie Spears as Britney’s Conservator

A judge has suspended Jamie Spears as the conservator of his daughter Britney Spears’ estate, effectively ending his 13-year reign controlling every aspect of Britney’s life and career. During the hearing, which some fans and #FreeBritney supporters hoped would be the singer’s last, Judge Brenda Penny essentially had three options: end Spears’ conservatorship altogether, suspend Jamie and appoint a temporarily successor, or deny any changes to the arrangement and continue with the status quo. “The current situation is not tenable,” Judge Penny ruled, adding that Jamie’s suspension was “in the best interest of the conservatee.” Advertisement Related Video In addition, TMZ reports that Jamie must turn over all books and records associated with the conservatorship. To that point, Britney’s la...

Dave Grohl Lends His Throne to Metal Bassist Who Heroically Stopped a Gunman

Dave Grohl has lent his Foo Fighters throne to Seattle metal bassist Darin Wall, who heroically stopped a gunman from entering a venue in early September. Wall and his band Greyhawk were playing a show in Boise, Idaho, when an armed individual, 26-year-old Ethan Byrd, attempted to enter the venue. Wall pushed the gunman to the ground and was shot in the leg. Police apprehended the shooter, but the bullet is still in Wall’s leg. After three weeks of rest, Wall and Greyhawk took the stage once again on Sunday night (September 26th) at Seattle’s El Corazon… with a little help from Dave Grohl. Johnny Ramone’s Mosrite Guitar Sells for Nearly $1 Million at Auction

A 1965 Mosrite Ventures II electric guitar owned by Johnny Ramone has sold for nearly $1 million at auction. The instrument was the late Ramones legend’s “main guitar” for two decades, and luckily escaped being stolen during a 1983 theft that cleaned the Ramones out of most of their gear. The guitar was sold by Daniel Rey, who produced Ramones albums and co-wrote songs with the band. He had bought the guitar from Johnny around the time the Ramones broke up. The winning bid via the Boston-based company RR Auction was $937,500. According to the VP of the auction house, Bobby Livingston, “The consignor was thrilled with the results and is very happy that the guitar is in the hands of someone who will curate Johnny Ramone’s Mosrite for future generations to enjoy.” Per the auction site, Johnny...

Demi Lovato And G-Eazy Confront Their Headlines In Gripping ‘Breakdown’ Performance

One neat thing about late-night musical performances today is how producers have found new and innovative ways to utilize the space of the studio. By and large, an appearance on The Tonight Show in 2021 is going to look a lot different than one from 2011, and not just because of the décor and set design. Now, the entire studio can be used rather than just the stage, making a three-minute song feel more conceptual. Take Demi Lovato and G-Eazy‘s rendition of “Breakdown” on Tuesday night (September 28). By centering both singers in front of giant screens and surrounding them with mirrors, the entire performance achieves a heightened sense of drama, especially when the projections behind the singers involve gossipy headlines that begin to feel invasive. “I miss days whe...
