The Re-Heating of Fueled By Ramen: 25 Years Later, Artists Still Come First

When Chloe Moriondo was in middle school, listening to favorite bands like Panic! at the Disco and Paramore on YouTube, she noticed that they belonged to a certain cool record label, Fueled By Ramen. Ten years earlier, a teenage Joe Mulherin — better known by his stage name, nothing, nowhere — was daydreaming about his chance to be on that same label; after all, it housed two of his idols, Fall Out Boy and The Academy Is. A few years and perhaps a pinch of destiny later, Moriondo and Mulherin are performers in their own right — and they’re two of Fueled by Ramen’s most promising rising stars to boot. Fueled By Ramen has been a driving force in modern pop and alternative music for 25 years. It began when John Janick (now Chairman/CEO of Interscope Records) launched the label out of his colle...

Dead & Company Announce Strict COVID-19 Guidelines for 2021 Tour

Dead & Company want to make sure the only dead people on their 2021 tour are on stage. John Mayer and the surviving members of the Grateful Dead have announced strict new COVID-19 guidelines, requiring ticket holders to provide proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test taken within 48 hours of entry. That 48-hour window is tighter than the 72 hours allowed by other live events such as Lollapalooza or Bonnaroo. And the rules get even more restrictive for the General Admission Pit. Only vaccinated fans can partake in this part of the show, and those with just a negative test will be relocated to a non-Pit area. Since children under the age of 12 aren’t cleared for vaccination, that means that those younger kids will also not be allowed in the Pit. “Requiring vaccinations&nb...

Though Whitney haven’t shared any original new music since their 2019 sophomore record, Forever Turned Around, this tour promises to be a special experience: “This fall we will be touring some of our favorite rooms in the US,” the band wrote on social media. “These intimate shows will mark the beginning of a new chapter in our project. New songs and new sounds will be presented with a focus on being in the moment. We’ll be bringing a new ...

M.A.G.S. Is Writing Music You Can Taste

By Mia Hughes Elliott Douglas isn’t sure why the phrase “Say Things That Matter” popped into his head. It came to him suddenly while he was in an airport before the pandemic, flying home to Los Angeles after visiting family. The rising artist otherwise known as M.A.G.S. (which doesn’t really stand for anything, although he jokes that it’s Marijuana and Good Sex) had only just begun working on his second album, out August 13, but he knew instantly that he had its title. “I just wanted to talk about real shit,” says Douglas, who has just turned 30. “I don’t sugarcoat things. I think that’s what people are connected to in my music.” Now, in a vastly different world, he’s set to release Say Things That Matter, one of the most refreshing, vibrant, and simply fun indie-rock albums of the year. D...
