Here’s a morning pick-me-up stronger than a double espresso: Yola swung by Colbert and delivered a towering performance of her new single “Stand for Myself.” This self-empowerment anthem was advertised as being accompanied by Late Show bandleader Jon Batiste. While video evidence suggests he was indeed playing the piano, you’d have to tear your eyes away from Yola to notice him. That’s no easy feat; she commanded the stage in a dress as bright and red as the dawn, as her gale-force vocals swept up and down the register. By the end, the camera panned out to show the audience giving a standing ovation. Check out Yola’s “Stand for Myself” below. The track appears on her upcoming album of the same name, with Stand for Myself dropping July 30th on Easy Eye Sound. Earlie...

Liam Gallagher’s son, Ringo Starr’s grandson, and model Noah Ponte are headed to trial next year after being charged with racially aggravated assault, affray, and theft. The inciting incident occurred back in May 2019 when Gene Gallagher and Sonny Stark, who were 17 years old at the time, allegedly started a fight in a Tesco alongside Ponte. Late one night inside a Tesco Express in Hampstead, North London, the three teenagers were described as “windmilling” down an aisle when one of the shopkeepers tried to stop them exiting the store. Things got violent after Ponte was denied trying to buy beer after midnight — the store’s cut-off for alcohol purchases goes into effect at 11:00 p.m. — and threatened to act out. He allegedly told an employee, “You bloody Indians. Go back to where you came ...
Shame rang in 2021 with the release of their latest album, Drunk Tank Pink, and they’re not wasting any time now that touring is back in the cards. The group has unveiled a 2022 North American tour to complement their previously-announced UK and European treks. What’s more, the South London punks have announced a remix EP featuring reworkings of the Drunk Tank Pink track “Born in Luton.” The full Born in Luton EP is coming out July 23rd, and as a preview, the band has shared the version remixed by Parquet Courts’ Austin Brown. Brown’s remix of “Born in Luton” is backed by a fat, distorted bassline and a beat that’s bound to fit seamlessly into club mixes. “They’re gonna have to reopen the Hacienda for this one,” Brown said in a press release. “Inspired by Ron Hardy’s Chicago Music Box and ...

Check out this brand new piece of music coming from Fireboy DML – “Peru” out now. Empire & YBNL present this brand new song titled “Peru” from its music superstar Fireboy DML. This is the first official single from Fireboy since the year 2021 began. It seems like the singer is in his album mood again and would be dropping a new project in the next couple of months. Without a prior warning, Fireboy DML shares the tune he made with one of Nigeria’s most prolific music producers in America. We wonder if Fireboy’s stay in America would culminate into his tour which fans in the US want badly. He subtly references DMW singer Peruzzi on the 2 minutes and 4 seconds track singing “Peruuuuu” . This is something different from what we would usually expect from the singer. Despite the brevity of t...

Taylor Swift won’t have to compete with herself at the Grammys or CMA Awards this year, as she’s decided to pull Fearless (Taylor’s Version) from contention. A representative for Republic Records confirmed to Billboard that the re-recording of Swift’s 2008 sophomore record won’t be submitted “in any category at this year’s upcoming Grammy and CMA Awards.” As the statement went on to note, “Fearless has already won four Grammys including album of the year, as well as the CMA Award for album of the year in 2009/2010 and remains the most awarded country album of all time.” It’s certainly fair of Swift not to try and repeat her wins with essentially the same songs. But it also means that she won’t be competing with herself, as the Republic rep added that the singer’s ninth LP, December 2020’s ...
