The Stone Roses’ Ian Brown Claims Spotify Took Down His Anti-Lockdown Song

Former Stone Roses singer Ian Brown has been outspoken about COVID-19 “plandemic” conspiracy theories, which he says had made him a target of Spotify. On Friday, the British musician accused the streaming service of taking down his anti-lockdown anthem, “Little Seed Big Tree”, as an act of censorship. “SPOTiFY stream the streams and censor artists like they have with my last song TOOK IT DOWN just put it down the memory hole!” he wrote on Twitter. “FREE EXPRESSiON AS REVOLUTiON” Consequence of Sound verified “Little Seed Big Tree” is no longer playable on Spotify, but the conspiracy-spewing track remains up on Apple Music, TIDAL, and YouTube. Stream it below to open your third eye. For the uninitiated, the song features lyrics about forced vaccines and microchips. “A forced vaccine, l...

Teenage Fanclub Share New Single “The Sun Won’t Shine on Me”: Stream

Teenage Fanclub have released a new song from Endless Arcade ahead of the album’s April 30th release. It’s called “The Sun Won’t Shine on Me” and it’s an absolutely gorgeous number to brighten an otherwise dreary Monday. Stream it below. This is the fourth song Teenage Fanclub have shared from their upcoming studio full-length, following the lead single “Home”, the downtrodden track “Everything Is Falling Apart”, and the jittery festival-primed song “I’m More Inclined”. Combined, it colors in Endless Arcade as an album that’s equally full of despair, positivity, and a laid-back approach to life. “The Sun Won’t Shine on Me” is a gorgeous, gentle song penned by Norman Blake. Over the course of the track’s three-minute-long runtime, Teenage Fanclub build from shimmering guitar riffs...

Grammys 2021: Music’s Biggest Night Finally Makes Music the Focus

The 2021 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles and the pop culture landscape both look vastly different from years past. The show, which has often overlooked contributions from women and people of color, is working on course correction, and this year’s program certainly reflected these efforts. While band-aids on gaping wounds aren’t always enough, the choice to focus on the reason for gathering — the music — was a wise one and paid off due in part to the “in the round” stage setups that recalled Jools Holland’s BBC format. Executive producer Ben Winston pulled off one of the cleanest, smoothest awards shows of this era, working to create some of the moments that make shows like this memorable. As always, though, the Grammys are a frustrating paradox. They correctly spotlighted some of the best art...

Bill Ward Would Love to Record a New Black Sabbath Album with the Original Lineup

Founding Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward has said he would “love to” record one more studio album with his former band. Ward parted ways with the group in 2012, prior to Sabbath recording their most recent album, 13, and embarking on their farewell tour. Ward was originally supposed to be aboard for the tour and the album but he departed citing contractual issues. Ozzy Osbourne later alleged that Ward was physically unfit for the tour. Rage Against the Machine’s Brad Wilk performed drums on the album, while Tommy Clufetos played drums on the final tour. It’s been nearly 10 years since Ward’s exit, and now the drummer has floated the idea about making another record with his old band. Speaking with SiriusXM’s Eddie Trunk, Ward — who turns 73 in May — said he definitely wouldn’t be able to e...

Drake is First Artist to Debut Three Songs in Top 3 of Billboard Hot 100 Simultaneously

Drake has set yet another record on the Billboard charts, as each of the three songs from his latest EP, Scary Hours 2, entered the Hot 100 in the Top 3. As Billboard reports, “What’s Next” debuted at No. 1, followed by “Wants and Needs” featuring Lil Baby and the Rick Ross-assisted “Lemon Pepper Freestyle”. “What’s Next” becomes Drake’s eighth No. 1 hit on the Hot 100, and he now has a record-extending 45 Top 10 songs. He joins The Beatles and Ariana Grande as the only artists to simultaneously claim the Top 3 spots on the Hot 100 (though neither The Beatles nor Grande did it in their respective songs’ first week of release). Drake’s previous No. 1 hits include his Rihanna collaborations “What’s My Name?” and “Work”, as well as “One Dance”, “God’s Plan”, “Nice for What”, “In My Feelings”,...

Eddie Van Halen’s Son Wolfgang Declined Invite to Perform Tribute at Grammys

Many viewers came away from Sunday’s Grammy Awards disappointed with the very brief tribute to the late Eddie Van Halen. On Monday, his son Wolfgang revealed that he was invited to perform Van Halen’s “Eruption” but declined. Even so, he was one of the ones who was underwhelmed by the salute to his father. While such artists as John Prine, Little Richard, and Kenny Rogers were toasted with full musical performances, Eddie Van Halen’s legacy was observed with one of his guitars sitting on a stage for 15 seconds during the “In Memoriam” segment, as a few videos played behind it. In a tweet, Wolfgang explained that he didn’t want play his father’s iconic Van Halen instrumental track “Eruption” because he felt he wouldn’t do it justice. That said, he was hoping the Grammys would do a little mo...

Michael Milosh of Rhye Accused of Grooming and Sexual Abuse

In an open letter on Instagram titled “Groomed by the Groom”, Nikolas also detailed alleged physical abuse and financial manipulation, and accused Milosh of grooming her starting at the age of 16. According to Nikolas, she initiated contact with Milosh in 2008 after taking LSD in an Iowa cornfield while working as a child actress on the TV movie Children of the Corn. “After my acid trip, or actually during it, I looked Milosh up and decided to send him a mes...

Harry Styles Skips The Shirt For His Grammys Debut

Who needs a shirt when you’re the opening act at the music industry’s biggest night? Not Harry Styles. The sultry rock star set the tone for the night with a show-stopping performance at the 63rd annual Grammy Awards on Sunday (March 14). Serenading stans in a stunning leather tux — jacket open, sans the shirt — and a sage-green feather boa, Styles sang a spirited rendition of “Watermelon Sugar,” a feel-good single off Fine Line, his critically acclaimed sophomore album from 2020. It was his first time performing at the Grammys, but you certainly couldn’t tell by the way he commanded the stage. Styles was nominated for three Grammy Awards this year: Best Music Video and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Watermelon Sugar” and Best P...

Billie Eilish’s Enchanting Grammys Set Was Everything We Wanted

Billie Eilish never fails to give us everything we wanted. The 19-year-old alt-pop ingenue graced the stage for the second year in a row at the 63rd annual Grammys Awards on Sunday (March 14), and she didn’t disappoint. Twirling airily atop the hood of a car in a sequined tuxedo, Eilish performed an air-tight rendition of her Grammy-nominated hit single “Everything I Wanted” alongside her brother and co-writer Finneas, who played the keyboard. She was second in the lineup after Harry Styles. Her standout performance this year comes on the heels of her historic domination at the 2020 Grammy Awards. At just 18, she became the youngest artist in Grammys history to sweep the big four categories, scoring Record of the Year and Song of th...

Bad Bunny And Jhay Cortez Iced Out The Grammys Stage For ‘Dákiti’

The vivid video for Bad Bunny and Jhay Cortez‘s luxe “Dákiti” shows the Puerto Rican pair stunning in a futuristic fever dream that’s as sensory-shaking as it is sumptuous. There’s a beach fire and bikinis but also a music box and an oceanic scene swimming with rich color — at one point, there’s even an underwater hallucination, suggesting a hint of something sinister. It’s all in keeping with Bad Bunny’s track record. At the 2019 VMAs, alongside J Balvin, he turned the stage into his own private video-game playground; throughout the pandemic, his performances have spanned the stylistic and the gauzy. Sunday night (March 14) at the 2021 Grammys, he teamed up with Cortez to bring that rococo vision of “Dákiti” to life. Standing ato...

2021 Grammy Awards Ratings Plummet to Less than Half of 2020’s Viewers

Music’s Biggest Night put on one hell of a concert, but unfortunately not a lot of people watched it go down. According to Nielsen figures, the 2021 Grammy Awards ratings experienced a huge drop in viewership this year, with only 7.89 million viewers tuning in to watch the show. That’s less than half (!) of the number of people who watched the Grammys in 2020. Out of that nearly eight million estimate, the 2021 Grammy Awards only drew a 1.9 rating among adults aged 18 to 49 years old — their key demographic and the audience that they court the hardest each year. By comparison, the 2020 awards averaged about 16.54 million viewers and a 4.8 in that same age group. And to think, that was before adjusting the ratings to their official (but still paltry) 18.69 million viewers and 5.4 rating amo...

Vol 1. was headlined by covers from My Morning Jjacket, Conor Oberst, and Justin Vernon. So far only Carlile has been announced from Vol. 2, and she’ll be taking on what has become one of Prine’s most lauded cuts. In addition to being among our favorite songs of 2020, Prine posthumously won two Grammys for “I Remember Everything” for Best Americ...
