Chicago garage rockers Waltzer have announced their debut album Time Traveler. It hits stores later this month, and the band is heralding its arrival with the new song “Lantern”. Waltzer are led by Sophie Sputnik, a former musical theater kid and onetime leader of Florida punk duo Killmama. She had tried to record under her solo moniker but struggled, saying in a statement that, “It had no authenticity. It sounded like a people-pleasing record or something.” With Waltzer, Sputnik has written an album around her idea of “future tripping” — the feeling of daydreaming about an idealized future before the disappointing present comes crashing in. “I called it Time Traveler because it’s about traveling through your thoughts while staying in one place,” she said. Waltzer’s latest single, “La...
The Griselda Records universe continues to grow, and with this expansion comes the collective’s first-ever feature film, Conflicted. Directed by AK Reed with a script from Deuce King, the upcoming “urban tale” depicts longtime label artist Benny the Butcher as a Buffalo gangster trying to get his life back on track after spending time behind bars. As to be expected, the movie comes with a soundtrack by a bunch of gold-tiered Griselda talent, including Westside Gunn, who appears on a new cut titled “The Hurt Business”. Today’s offering features additional contributions from Smoke DZA and Wale, but the spotlight shines firmly on Westside and the gritty story he weaves. Painting a graphic scene of the vicious streets of Buffalo, he raps over an old-school production, “Blow his brains out...
The saga of self-violence continues. After promoting “Blinding Lights” with a theatrically bloody face and literally losing his head in the video for “Too Late”, The Weeknd has unveiled new visuals for “Save Your Tears” that showcases the after-effects of some horrifying plastic surgery. The singer performs the After Hours track with lips as big as a fist and a jawline grotesquely stretched until his chin is even wider than his forehead. He also wears a turtleneck, perhaps to hide the decapitation scars earned in “Too Late”. His appearance is wild, but the rest of the video is just as deranged. He performs at a glamorous, masked ceremony that might be a parody of the Grammys, since they recently shut him out of all categories. Most of the patrons wear masks, but one young lady makes a...

Since her tumultuous departure from Crystal Castles back in 2014, Alice Glass has steadily worked to carve out a solo career for herself. She put out her first-ever EP two years later, followed by a handful of singles, a collaboration with Adult Swim, and even a spot on The Turning soundtrack alongside folks like Courtney Love and Mitski. Today, Glass begins a new chapter in her post-Crystal Castles era with the announcement of her debut solo album. According to a statement, the as-yet-untitled full-length is expected to arrive later this year. In lieu of other specifics, Glass has let loose lead single “SUFFER AND SWALLOW”. The track is said to examine “the dichotomy of pain and beauty,” and it does so by alternating between harsh, blistering beats and fluid, almost angelic, vocals. Think...
The 2021 Grammy Awards have been postponed due to concerns over the spread of COVID-19, according to Rolling Stone. The event had been scheduled to take place on January 31st. Update: A new date has been set for March 14th, according to a press release sent by the Recording Academy. Similar to last year’s Emmy Awards, there will be no audience and nominated artists will appear remotely. Kanye West and Kim Kardashian are reportedly ending their marriage of seven years. According to Page Six, a divorce between the celebrity couple is “imminent.” Kardashian has reportedly hired divorce attorney Laura Wasser to engage in settlement talks. West first hinted at a riff in the couple’s marriage over the summer when he bizarrely tweeted about divorcing Kardasian in the wake of a meeting she had with Meek Mill. “I been trying to get divorced since Kim met with Meek at the Warldolf [sic] for ‘prison reform,’” he tweeted, seeming to refer to a criminal justice summit attended by Kardashian and Mill in November 2018. West also accused Kardashian of attempting to get him involuntarily committed into a mental health facility. In response to the tweets, Kardashian said Kanye was in the m...
The 2021 Grammys show was set to air on January 31, but according to new reports, organizers have postponed the event due to COVID-19 safety concerns. Organizers confirmed the delay to both Rolling Stone and Variety on Tuesday (January 5). No new date has been set for the broadcast, though organizers are reportedly looking to reschedule for sometime in March. The awards show was to take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, currently one of the biggest hubs for the virus in the nation. Around 7,600 people are hospitalized with COVID-19 in Los Angeles County, and one person dies from COVID-19 every 15 minutes, the county’s public health director said this week. Rolling Stone reports the show was to have no in-person audience and planned on only letting presenters and performers ...
slowthai is kicking off the new year with a fresh track called “MAZZA” that features none other than ASAP Rocky. The collaborative single is the latest offering from the UK rapper’s upcoming sophomore album TYRON. TYRON is divided up into two contrasting sections, one that’s aggressive and swaggering and another characterized by more introspective reflections. Today’s cut is off the former half and aptly comes out swinging. Indomitable, rumbling bass, co-produced by slowthai and SAMO, sets the stage for the two MCs to throw it down fiercely and fearlessly. “Ayy, make the place look like a murder scene/ Ayy, when I make moves I’m a money fiend,” slowthai boasts on the chorus. I mean, who would dare stand in his way? Listen to “MAZZA” below. Editors’ Picks TYRON arrives Febr...
In the latest edition of reality being more absurd than our wildest imaginations, COVID-19 conspiracy theorists tricked themselves into thinking that the electrical schematics of a common guitar pedal were the master plans behind 5G mind control. It’s literally as ridiculous as it sounds, but here’s the context. In case you’re blissfully unaware, there’s a dangerously prevalent theory abound that the new towers for 5G cellphone service are responsible for spreading COVID-19. In fact, federal agents are investigating whether anti-5G sentiments could have been a potential motive for the Christmas Day Nashville bombing, which went down right near an AT&T building. This baseless connection between an airborne disease and a cellphone service obviously has real-world implications, but believ...
