Win Sade’s Career-Spanning This Far Vinyl Box Set

It’s been a full decade since Sade released a new album. Now, as 2010’s Soldier of Love hits its 10th anniversary, fans will get a chance to revisit it alongside the band’s entire discography in the new This Far vinyl box set. Arriving October 9th through Sony Music, This Far features every Sade album released, well, this far: Diamond Life (1984), Promise (1985), Stronger Than Pride (1988), Love Deluxe (1992), Lovers Rock (2000), and Soldier of Love. But this isn’t just any set of standard reissues, as the music underwent a unique remastering process. It all began at the legendary Abbey Road Studios, where Sade worked alongside frequent co-producer Mike Pela and engineer Miles Showell to make digital transfers of the original stereo master mixes. Those mixes were then put into a restored N...

Miley’s Disco-Rock Cover, Griselda’s Hypnotic Boom, And More Songs We Love

G Flip is currently single, but you wouldn’t know it from listening to “You and I.” The Aussie singer-songwriter banged out the feels-y pop track in just a few hours during a studio session in London while deeply in love with her ex-girlfriend. That relationship has since ended, but Flip’s epic queer love story lives on, immortalized by her effervescent vocals and soul-baring lyrics (“I would never lie / Now that you are mine / I’ll never cross the line / It’s just you and I, you and I”). 2020, man. —Sam Manzella You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. Shawn Mendes Gets Very Wet In Soaring New ‘Wonder’ Video

Shawn Mendes‘s Continuum look has finally arrived. In his new video for “Wonder,” a soaring pop song that keeps rising, Mendes first shows off his quarantine-grown lettuce by peering out the window of a train as a glowing pink horizon beckons. In under a minute, though, he’s standing on top of the zooming vessel, King of the World-ing the shit out of the enterprise. He’s arrived. The video, directed by Matty Peacock, soundtracks the cloud-high anthem that finds Mendes questioning his place as well as put-upon expectations. “I wonder when I cry into my hands,” he sings, “I’m conditioned to feel like it makes me less of a man.” As he ventures into the big (yet curiously percussion-less choruses), Mendes moves first into a copse of m...

Blackpink’s The Album Has A Song For Every Mood

“Ice Cream” (ft. Selena Gomez) Listen to it when you’re feeling: flirtatious Key Lyrics: “Even in the sun, you know I keep it icy / You could take a lick, but it’s too cold to bite me” Just like the title suggests, the song is sugar, spice, naughty, and nice! But what else would you expect from a track co-written by Ariana Grande and Victoria Monét, among others?  Fittingly, “Ice Cream” makes many light, tasty dessert metaphors: Blackpink are approaching their guys with grown-women energy and are not being shy in their approach of what they want. Late Power Trip Frontman Riley Gale Getting Library Named in His Honor

The metal world suffered a tremendous loss in late August when Power Trip frontman Riley Gale passed away suddenly at the young age of 34. Now, the singer is being honored with a library in his hometown of Dallas. The Riley Gale Memorial Library, spearheaded by Jeff and Vanessa Reynolds, will be housed at the Dallas Hope Center, which helps provide inclusive spaces for at-risk, homeless LGBTQ youth. The center is operated by Dallas Hope Charities, which Gale supported throughout his career. In fact, as part of Power Trip’s official statement regarding Gale’s death, the band requested donations be made to Dallas Hope Charities. The goal is to open the full library by December, with donations of new or gently used books currently being sought. As of Thursday (October 1st), the Riley Gale Mem...

Rilo Kiley, Jenny Lewis, Taylor Swift, And The Trail Of Heartbreak Pop

By Tatiana Tenreyro Rilo Kiley came into my life when I was 16. I couldn’t have found the California indie-rock band at a more pivotal time. At that age, I was dealing with two terrible relationships back-to-back that broke my spirit, while also feeling like an outsider in high school. Jenny Lewis‘s songwriting helped me find solace; her songs made me feel like she was the cool older friend guiding me through it all, validating my emotions, with songs like “Capturing Moods,” “Go Ahead,” and “Glendora.” But for the other teenage girls I knew, the musical icon they related to the most was Taylor Swift. At the time, I wrote off Swift, focusing on her imperfections. Her songs comparing herself to the popular cheerleader and wanting a fairytale ro...

Tame Impala Perform “Elephant”, “Is It True” in an Empty Soccer Stadium: Watch

After months of live music lockdown, artists are finally stepping outside of their homes and returning to venues. HAIM just played at The Forum, and Trey Anastasio has a Beacon Theatre residency coming up. Sure, HAIM’s performance took place in The Forum’s parking lot and Anastasio’s virtual residency will be audience-free, but the point is the venues aren’t vacant anymore. Now, Tame Impala have joined their ranks and staged their own physical performance in the outside world, as they recently took over a soccer stadium for a two-song set. Kevin Parker and his pared down three-piece version of Tame Impala set up in the center of the pitch at HBF Park in Perth, Australia. They delivered the Lonerism favorite “Elephant” and “Is It True” off their latest full-length, Febru...

Denzel Curry Unleashes Furious New Song “Live from the Abyss”: Stream

Back in June, Denzel Curry lent his fury to the protest song “PIG FEET”, featuring Terrace Martin and Kamasi Washington. Judging by his newest single, “Live from the Abyss”, the Florida rapper is still very much up in arms over our current state of affairs. Although a slow-burning affair production-wise, Curry’s raging bars carry intense heat. “I don’t fuck with my president,” he declares at one point, echoing a majority of Americans. As his anger over Trump and racism mounts, Curry closes the track nearly scream-growling into the mic. “Live from the Abyss” is officially the mood for 2020. Stream the track below. To coincide with Bandcamp Friday, all net proceeds through the month of October will be donated to the protest group Dream Defenders. Its mission reads: “We are an uprising of reb...

CHAI Share Sub Pop Debut Single “Donuts Mind If I Do”: Stream

Japanese indie pop band CHAI have signed to Sub Pop Records, and are now sharing their first song on the label, “Donuts Mind If I Do”. The track is the latest in a string of singles from Nagoya-based band, following “Ready Cheeky Pretty”, “keep on rocking”, and their Hinds collaboration “UNITED GIRLS ROCK’N’ROLL CLUB”, among others. Compared to their 2019 album Punk, and even their 2017 debut Pink, “Donuts Mind If I Do” has a much more relaxed vibe that might be signaling a new direction for the quartet. Instead of their usual blend of eccentric pop and giddy punk, this tune moves at a gentle sway and is stuffed with ’80s-esque synths and percussion that create a sense of dreamy lushness. The soaring harmonies are sung in the way of ’70s girl groups, but everything else about the song...
