Krill Offshoot Knot Contemplate “The World” on New Single: Stream

Earlier this summer, the three members of Boston rock group Krill reunited under the moniker Knot and announced their debut self-titled album. Now, they’re back with another new single from that record called “The World”. With guitarist Joe DeManuelle-Hall now joining them in the band, vocalist and guitarist Jonah Furman, guitar and bass player Aaron Ratoff, and drummer Ian Becker sound fuller than ever as they pry into political indie rock. That much was evident on their lead single “Foam”, and it stays true on the newest track, too. Over trickling guitar melodies that diverge and rejoin with one another, Knot spend the runtime of this math rock number contemplating anti-escapism and fighting for a better planet, way of life, and ideal community. “‘The World’ is supposed to be about the e...

Mining Metal: Bedsore, Defeated Sanity, Drouth, EMBR, Havukruunu, Maggot Heart, Rebel Wizard, and Skeleton

“Mining Metal” is a monthly column from Heavy Consequence writers Joseph Schafer and Langdon Hickman. The focus is on noteworthy new music emerging from the non-mainstream metal scene, highlighting releases from small and independent labels — or even releases from unsigned acts. Metalheads, permit me a brief digression into hip-hop fandom: Do you remember that last year rapper extraordinaire Megan Thee Stallion declared these months Hot Girl Summer? I sure do. In contrast, this year feels more like the Hot Seat Summer, with not much to look forward to besides an endless stream of anxiety-inducing news articles chronicling dire political and social climes, and not much anyone can do about it though there’s a constant fire under our butts to at least try to do something — anything. There’s n...

The record, originally titled To Die For, was supposed to hit shelves back in May, but the London native decided to scrap all of those plans due to the global pandemic. Our new music feature Origins finds bands giving listeners a bit of an inside scoop on their latest single. Today, Charley Crockett wants you to “Fool Somebody Else”. When a songwriter sings of woe and heartbreak, we want to believe them. We want, in some part, to believe that this person has really gone through the wringer of life, and what we’re hearing is all that adversity spilling out. It’s not that we’d ever wish such hardships on a person, only that if they’ve experienced it, we can feel it in their songs. Well, there’s no doubt that you can feel it in the songs on Charley Crockett’s new album, Welcome to Hard Times. The country musician has been through homelessness, felony stints, family addiction, and the struggle of being an independent artist. Even with all that behin...

Lomelda Teases Upcoming Album With Gorgeous New Single “It’s Infinite”: Stream

Lomelda, the indie folk project of musician Hannah Read, has shared a new song called “It’s Infinite”. It’s the latest single to come from Hannah, her upcoming album, before it drops on September 4th via Double Double Whammy. Technically, this is the second Hannah teaser, following lead track “Wonder”. Both songs have painted the full-length as an introspective, insightful, and honest listen that uses acoustic guitar and lush percussion to draw out those feelings. On its own, “It’s Infinite” is a gorgeous rush of stirring folk, the kind that Lomelda made a name for herself with, but it carries arguably more momentum than we’ve seen from her prior. Needless to say, that little burst of optimism and emotion is welcome more than ever these days. Editors’ Picks According to a statement f...
