Celebration Day, the concert film capturing Led Zeppelin’s one-off reunion at London’s O2 Arena in 2007, will stream for free on YouTube this weekend. The film will be available for 72 hours beginning Saturday, May 30th at 3:00 p.m. ET. Fans can tune in below via Led Zeppelin’s YouTube channel. Led Zeppelin’s reunion, which doubled as a benefit concert for music executive Ahmet Ertegün, took place at London’s O2 Arena on December 10th, 2007. It marked the band’s first full-length performance in almost three decades, and their first time playing together since John Bonham’s death in 1980. For the show, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, and John Paul Jones were accompanied by Bonham’s son, Jason, on drums. Celebration Day, which was released in 2012, captures Led Zeppelin’s 16-song, two-encore set i...
This year marks the 25th anniversary of Electr-O-Pura, the seminal seventh album from indie favorites Yo La Tengo. To honor the occasion, the band will reissue the record on double-LP for the first time this September, offering “the highest quality of audio the album has had on vinyl to date.” They’ve also unearthed a high quality version of their “Tom Courtenay” music video. Released in 1995, it’s believed the clip aired sparingly, “at least once on MTV’s 120 Minutes,” per a statement. It’s since been ripped and shared many times over online, though existing only as a low resolution visual. That is… until now: The video has been “exhumed” from label Matador’s “sub-basement storage facilities”, and for the very first time, is making its high quality premiere on YouTube. This means YLT...
Grace Sings Sludge, the solo project from Grace Cooper of The Sandwitches, has shared the new song “Friend to All”. It’s the latest single off her forthcoming album Christ Mocked and the End of a Relationship, which just received the new release date of July 17th. Christ Mocked… is her fifth album under the Grace Sings Sludge banner, but the first recorded at a proper studio. If “Friend to All” is any indication, she’s definitely benefiting from crisper production. The new single is a lovely journey into gothic folk. Over gentle, minor-key guitars, Cooper spins an anxious tale of a downtrodden woman who’s “been friends to all,” in her own way. Cooper’s singing is expansive and expressive; she loves to whittle down a vowel until it’s little more than a hum, and then flip her voice upwa...
It’s Thursday, and that means it’s time for another entry in Radiohead’s quarantine concert series. Today, May 28th, the rockers are unlocking footage of their famous 1994 London show Live at the Astoria. Tune in below beginning at 5:00 p.m. EDT. Coming as it did a little over a year after Pablo Honey and ten months before the classic The Bends, this set captured Radiohead in a liminal moment. Still riding high on the unexpected success of “Creep”, the band was already transitioning away from their early, grunge-derivative sound to the galactic rock that would define them in the second half of the ’90s. Live at the Astoria is notable as the first officially recorded performance of many future classics, including “Fake Plastic Trees”, “Black Star”, “My Iron Lung”, and “S...

Back at the turn of the century, director Mark Duplass was busy playing gigs across the US in his popular indie rock band Volcano, I’m Still Excited!! Polyvinyl still considers them to be one of their “most beloved signings,” and as such they’ve decided to celebrate the band by reissuing their debut EP, Carbon Copy, on vinyl for the first time ever. Featuring singer-keyboardist Duplass, guitarist Byron Westbrook, and drummer John Thomas Robinette III, Volcano, I’m Still Excited!! released Carbon Copy on a small run of CDs back in 2002. Since then, the long out-of-print disc has been tough to track down, especially compared to the availability of the band’s sole full-length, 2004’s self-titled LP. That’s because the group only signed with Polyvinyl after meeting the team in Illinois wh...
The Iranian-Dutch artist Sevdaliza has shared her new song, “Joanna”. The haunting single comes from an unnamed album, due out later this summer. For fans of Sevdaliza’s 2017 debut album, ISON, “Joanna” will sound stripped-down, even bare. ISON weaved together R&B drums and genre-bending synthesizers into rich sonic tapestries. In contrast, the backing track of “Joanna” relies on simplicity. An acoustic guitar picks out three notes at a time, so that the beginning of each measure is full of silence, while brief electronic flourishes accent the end of phrases. “Evil personified/ She preys on the dead/ Desert woman/ Veiled in silence,” Sevdaliza sings, pitching her husky voice somewhere between a whisper and a moan. “Joanna” utilizes this stark imagery to paint a bleak picture of u...
Lil Nas X‘s debut album is slowly coming together, and the viral rapper has been graciously keeping his fans in the loop via his Twitter and Instagram bios. Currently, both read, “ALBUM: 82% DONE,” followed by a tiger emoji, signaling a 3 percent increase from last week’s status update. And in the meantime, Nas X, who released his first EP, 7, last year on the tail-end of his torrid “Old Town Road” success, has kept the industry excitedly anticipating his inaugural LP. On Wednesday (May 27) the “Old Town Road” singer offered a sneak peak of new music with a post on his Instagram stories. The brief clip depicted the singer, wearing a gray Calvin Klein Jeans hoodie, grooving in what appears to be his living room. Subsequently, Nas X t...
He might’ve started behind the scenes, but Breland‘s country-rap/R&B prowess is now front and center. The chameleonic songwriter and powerhouse vocal talent is the artist behind the infectious hybrid viral hit “My Truck,” a point of pride he makes clear early in the video when, grinning a prankster’s smile, he pushes a cowboy lip-synching his song out of the frame. This cheeky introduction is compounded by the fact that Breland didn’t even set out to make the twang-gilded hip-hop tune his own debut. “I didn’t go into the song thinking, this is going to be my breakout single,” he told MTV News. But it happened; now it’s got 15 million views. As we well know by now, a looped guitar pluck over big trap drums can have that kind of...
