The relatively short history of Wu-Tang Clan’s seventh studio album, 2015’s one-of-a-kind Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, is already something of a legend. It’s a weird, wild tale involving pharmadouche Martin Shkreli, $2 million auctions, diss tracks, and federal forfeitures. Now, the whole sordid story will be told in a new Netflix film. The announcement of the project was tucked into a press release about screenwriter Ian Edelman’s new movie, American Sole (starring Pete Davidson and O’Shea Jackson Jr.). As Collider reports, Brittany Runs a Marathon director Paul Downs Colaizzo will helm the project, with Wu-Tang’s own RZA producing alongside Brad Pitt’s Plan B. Edelman will be working off Colaizzo’s original draft of the script. For those who don’t know, the Wu-Tang Clan only produced one...
Longtime Nirvana fan Kid Cudi has gotten a tattoo of Kurt Cobain wearing a Daniel Johnston shirt. Cudi shared the photorealistic ink in social media posts over the weekend. The tattoo appears to be on the outside of his left forearm, and was performed by Doctor Woo, he of the rumored two-year waitlist. As Uproxx points out, Cobain is depicted just as he was during the 1992 VMAs, complete with a shirt honoring Johnston’s 1983 album Hi, How Are You. As Woo said in his own statement, “Kurt in Daniel on Cudi…legends all the way round.” Cudi’s never been shy about his feelings for Cobain, and has tweeted about the grunge icon numerous times, including, “Never not thinkin’ about Kurt Cobain,” “Im obsessed with Kurt Cobain. I wish he was still here, so he could teach me guitar tricks,” ...

The 10th anniversary model is worthy of a veteran musician like Armstrong, as well as a beginner looking for carry the instrument with them for years to come. Guapdad 4000 (photo by Paul Middleton), Thundercat (photo by Parker Day), Smino (photo by Heather Kaplan) Thundercat has shared a new remix of “Dragonball Durag” featuring underground king Smino and rising star Guapdad 4000. The song was already a highlight of It Is What It Is, one of our favorite albums of the year so far. The remix features more to love, with new verses to expand on the song’s effervescent charm. Smino is already well known in these parts, and for “Dragonball Durag” he busts out a funky flow that combines smooth syllables with staccato bursts of emphasis, as well as plenty of punchlines. As for Guapdad 4000, he’s spent the last year like a bomb in space, quietly blowing up. Along with Smino, he’s in the supergroup Zoink Gang with JID and Buddy, and his 2019 deb...

Bright Eyes returned last week with their long-awaited comeback album, Down in the Weeds, Where the World Once Was. In support of the release, Conor Oberst and his crew recorded a SiriusXM Session that featured a pretty unexpected cover song: Thin Lizzy’s “Running Back”. They also appeared on CBS This Morning over the weekend. While the indie/emo rockers maintain the folkier aspects of Think Lizzy’s 1976 Jailbreak original, Oberst’s distinctly raspy growl make this “Running Back” rendition a unique one all their own. We’ve certainly missed Oberst in Bright Eyes mode like this. As for the Omaha-bred band’s appearance on CBS This Morning, they performed Down in the Weeds singles “Persona Non Grata” and “Mariana Trench”. Oberst was joined by fellow Bright Eyes mates Mike Mogis and Nathan...
