Simple Plan have parted ways with longtime bassist David Desrosiers following allegations of sexual misconduct. “Following recent public statements, David Desrosiers is withdrawing from the band in order to work on his personal issues,” Simple Plan said in a statement posted to social media. “We offer our deepest apologies to the women who were hurt by his actions. We are also sorry for all our fans who are disappointed by this regretful situation. We will, as a band, take time to pause, reflect, and put in place guidelines to prevent similar situations from happening.” In his own statement, Desrosiers added, “Recent public statements have led me to acknowledge that some of the interactions I have had with women have caused them harm. Harlem-based producer Crystal Caines has always been the master of her own fate. Raised in a musical household by Guyanese parents, she began making her own music around 16 years old. She started out just wanting to sing, then began to rap, but wasn’t getting the sound she wanted from producers she knew, so she started to make her own beats. A friend gave her a keyboard and she taught herself how to record, mix and produce. “From then on it was a blessing for me to be able to take what I felt here and put it on wax.” Caines released her first single, “Whiteline,” in 2014 and went on to collaborate with A$AP Ferg, MIA and Baauer. Inspired by everyone from Trackmasters to the Neptunes, she crafted a sound thick with 808s and sample-based melodies driven by closed hi-hats. “Everything gotta h...
Reggae legends Toots and the Maytals will return next month with their first proper album in over a decade, Got to Be Tough. Much like “Got to Be Tough”, this new song continues to showcase leader and founder Frederick “Toots” Hibbert’s enduring commitment to social justice issues. On “Warning Warning”, Toots specifically calls on us to not only recognize the corrupt systems at play in 2020 — such as those upholding racism and white supremacy — but to also remember to stay focused on the fight against them, no matter how long it takes. “I’m giving you a warning/ Don’t take it for granted,” Toots advises on the song. “I want to ask everyone to keep their focus in th...
