Two of house music’s hottest acts have finally linked up for a stellar collaboration. Walker & Royce and Nala have joined forces for “Not About You,” which released by way of Chris Lake’s famed Black Book Records imprint. The tune is a glorious hodgepodge of each’s signature sounds, with Walker & Royce’s tech house expertise serving as a canvas for Nala’s Riot Grrrl vocal flair. Pumping bass and twisting laser synths create an infectious groove, while the track’s unruly lyrics give it a rebellious edge. “When they tell me what to do I don’t listen,” Nala purrs with a sultry cadence. “When they tell me what to do I just do what I want and give ‘em nothing… it’s not about you.” “Not About You” arrives highly anticipated. Following their wildly successful REALM Brooklyn Mirage show in New York this May, Gorgon City took over the Shrine in L.A. and put on another spectacular performance July 8th. Just like the Brooklyn Mirage show, this one traded the dark club interior for an open air experience outside of the Shrine Expo Hall. Combined with a stellar lineup of opening acts, this made “REALM” feel more like a small festival than a standard weekend concert. The stage featured towering pyrotechnic displays that lit up the night sky, jetted pillars of smoke and rhythmic lights beaming off the crowd below. Local Los Angeles staple Matt Black and surging house music artist Nala, the latter of whom is featured on many a festival lineup this year, respectively opened the night and made the crowd ...
After years of honing her craft in the underground dance scene, Los Angeles-based DJ, house music producer and vocalist Nala has quickly become a fast-rising star. Harnessing a unique, Riot Grrrl-inspired sound that blends 90s punk aesthetics with analog synthesizers, she writes electronic music with a conscious edge. Nala has now launched a new record label, Mi Domina, a “femme-dominated” platform “where women are in charge,” per a press release shared with EDM.com. The name translates to “Dominate Me,” a phrase which functions as an ode to Nala’s Italian heritage. Serving as Mi Domina’s inaugural record is Nala’s new three-track EP, Get Familiar, a joint record with fellow Dirtybird artist E.R.N.E.S.T.O. Blending funky tech ho...

Like a mother bird keeping her eggs warm, Dirtybird Records has hatched the careers of several DJs in their own proverbial nest over the last 18 months, taking one artist after the next under their wing. Social media helped to hype the label’s newest recruits in the absence of live shows, but few could argue the real magic happened on the online streaming platform Twitch, which seemingly overnight became the heartbeat of the electronic dance music scene during the pandemic. For Dirtybird, their Twitch channel garnered staggering support with more than 7 million viewers tuning in to stream since April 2020, totaling more than 928,000 hours of direct screen time with fans. They also quickly racked up more than 50,000 active followers on the platform, bolstering their digital prese...
